About this product

Product Information

Danny DeVito directs this black comedy about a long-married couple in the throes of divorce at the height of the materialistic 1980s, and his second feature far surpasses his first effort, THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN, in style, substance, and comedic impact. Barbara and Oliver Rose were the perfect couple--he was a prominent Washington lawyer, she had a wildly successful catering business, they had a great house, great art, great cars and great kids. But when Barbara begins to wonder about life without Oliver, she likes what she sees and sues for divorce; unfortunately, neither of them likes the prospect of life without their opulent home, and war is waged to determine who will keep it. The pair become increasingly outlandish in their battle tactics, moving from cunning to cruel to outright surreal, and DeVito's camera echoes this mood with its unorthodox angles and movement. DeVito himself narrates the action as Oliver Rose's lawyer, and Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas prove once again their chemistry as a passionately antagonistic couple (ROMANCING THE STONE, JEWEL OF THE NILE).

  • Ivory Chinese Doctor's Lady

I only purchased the movie because in the auction scene the main characters bid against each other on a lovely "17th Century Chinese Ivory Doctor's Lady". They state in the auction manual the worth in the early seventies is $250. Near the end of the movie they literally fight over the item. I have a large collection of these lovely figures, so I bought the movie just to see those scenes.

  • A MUST SEE

THIS MOVIE IS JUST GREAT. IT'S AN OLDER MOVIE...BUT A CLASSIC. IT WILL MAKE "ANYONE" LAUGH. IF YOUR FEELING BLAH JUST POP THIS MOVIE IN , GRAB SOME POPCORN, AND DON'T CHOKE ON IT WHILE YOU ARE LAUGHING AT ALL OF THE GREAT SCENES. MY MOM HAD NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE AND HAS JUST WENT THRU A DIVORCE AND I GOT THIS FOR HER. ANYONE WHO HAS GONE THRU HARD TIMES IN A RELATIONSHIP OR A SPLIT UP WILL APPRECIATE THE COMEDY IN THIS FILM.

  • Happy with this product

I bought it as a gift for my 78 yr old mother in law. She requested it for her birthday and I was unable to purchase it for such a good used price anywhere but ebay. It worked fine and she's enjoying it!

  • The title fits the movie

I was told about this movie from a freind I had looked around but could not find it. after watching the movie I decided that it was long, boring and did not like the character's played by Danny Devito nor Kathleen Turner in the movie at all!! I was also dissappointed in Michael Douglas's part.
