In 1909 Honus Wagner and the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team will face off against Ty Cobb and the Detroit Tigers in the first of seven game format to be played in a World Series. A young rookie Robert Hamilton Hyatt from a small village called Candler Town, awaits to give his contribution to help the Pirates win their first World Series. It is the seventh game of that series before Hyatt gets his chance to contribute to Pittsburgh's win.Robert Hamilton Hyatt's baseball story is like a thousand other stories that can be told of baseball players that have played the game. These men give their whole being to the game and then are forgotten for the next shinny star that appears on the field. This is Hyatt's story as well. He played six years in the Major Leagues with seven years mingled between the Minor Leagues. In 1918 he ended his days in the majors with the NY Yankees. He then traveled to Toledo and continued west to play three years in the Grand Old Pacific Coast League before retiring from Baseball in 1923.Robert Hamilton's Baseball story is as complex as the game itself. Once you unravel this gentle giant's history you can begin to sense the victories and defeats he had to endure. He loved the game he played and fought for the recognition he received. His favorite quote was "Either you do or either you don't, but you get up and do it all over again."
