This is a great product! You can integrate the latest technology into your sound system with the numerous inputs and outputs. For instance, I have the tv, 2 gaming systems, a dvd player, and the online smart tv applications all going through the receiver. In addition to the video components, we have a line-in hooked up for (non-Apple) digital music, and the built-in USB slot for iphone/ipod charges the device while it plays. You may have read a review about not being able to Bluetooth, but we bought an external Bluetooth device, hooked it up to the receiver, and it’s working great. Everything is running through the receiver with no delays or glitches. The other vital component for a receiver is for control of your powerful, state of the art speakers. Because let’s be honest – if you were satisfied with “good” sound, you would have purchased a sound bar and portable Bluetooth speaker. You have rock star speakers and want great quality sound. This receiver has fantastic control capability with either auto or manual setups. There is accessibility to balance between left and right, boost bass or highs, set optimal distance for sound to travel, and so much more. This is where I cannot give the product a 5. I would like easier access to the controls. The access is only on the tv screen, it’s a lot of steps, and it interrupts viewing and sound as things are adjusted. I expected the equalizers and balancers to be on the remote since they were not on the receiver itself. If there is accessibility that I am unaware of, I would appreciate the feedback. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase. Everything is set up through one system, you can FEEL the bass, and the highs are nice and crisp. I highly recommend this receiver. Read full review

There was no owners manual for the receiver, or a manual for the control. I have no printer to copy with, My friend had a printer but said no when there was 486 pages to copy.I'm 78 so not up to par on any setup without instructions. I need startup manuals for sony receiver @control for the SonySTR-DH550. Robert Johnson

In use currently in a medium size living room with a 42" tv. First I would like to say any system will shine with the right type of speakers. The on-screen menu is awesome (need HDMI) its basic (not like PS3 or Blu-ray player) but good enough. Separate speaker adjustments which include distance down to the inch, decibel volume control with night mode, including sub-woofer. Night mode is like turning on an equalizer. Treble and bass adjustments for front speakers only. You can set speakers to large for full range or small in which case you have control over high pass x-over range from 200hz down to I believe 50hz which I have on (full size speakers) just to make sure they don't distort at high vol. I'm using all Sony speakers with a feq. range up to 50,000hz and a 8 inch powered sub. For the price you cant get better! I was going to get a pioneer but I have other Sony products and they just work better together. With this you cant go wrong! I cant stress enough that speakers are just as important as your system. I highly suggest looking for speakers that range into the 50,000hz or higher to get the true Blu-ray quality sound or you are just cheating yourself! Read full review

This receiver is a great central command post for all of my devices. Blu-Ray, x-Box, Satellite Box - all pass through the receiver first and then straight to the TV on only 1 HDMI cord. HAS 4 HDMI inputs. So simple and effective. Finally - all audio goes to one place.

Didn't explore all the features as I only needed it for the 5.1 surround sound which it does deliver, only gripe, even when I set all my speakers to small is that the powered subwoofer does not produce as much sound as my older sony av receiver I had years ago, the front usb port only works for pictures and audio playback, as for the HDMI inputs, I have my computer hooked up to it, and it lives up to it's quality, it does make use of all the speakers though don't know why it looks at it as and 7.1, as it does not have the ports for it, though I can set it to 5.1 all the same. watching movies are good and playing games as well, I had to raise the volume of the surround and subwoofer all the way to 10 to get the effect.

I've got a Sony car in dash receiver that's the best I've ever had in terms of reliability, sound quality and power. I also have a 1987 Sony AV receiver, high end in it's day which puts out 115 watts/RMS@20-20,000 HZ. This Sony receiver works just like it did 30 years ago. When I saw this Sony surround sound receiver for $150, I became interested. When I saw it for $120, it was a deal I couldn't resist. This is the same high quality in both build and sound that I've come to expect in Sony receivers. It does a great job with both surround and as a stereo music receiver. Nobody competes with Sony in this price range. Sony still does make great receivers!
