very pleased with the product!
This is my first HD DVR. The dual tuner ability to record two shows or record one and watch another is fantastic. The ability to pause live TV - how did I live without that!? You can buffer live tv while watching a recorded program too! The HD video is stunning and while this does not have the largest built in hard drive the ability to use a a 2 TB external drive (and an eSATA one at that!!) puts this on par with other receivers. The ONLY reason this does not get 5 stars is it only has one HDMI output. There really really really should be two HDMI outs.... other rhan that, great unit.This is my first HD DVR. I bought this used receiver that save some money which less than buy a new one at Directv and you don't need to commit any contract agreement. And this receiver can record up to 200 hrs of SD or up to 50 hours of HD (MPEG-4) programming, Pause live TV for up to 90 minutes and use rewind, instant replay and slow motion on live or recorded TV.

I am totally satisfied with the unit, its performance, and features. My one gripe has to do with 'total' disclosure. My purchase of this item did not entitle me to ownership of the unit, but rather as a lessee from DirecTV once I activated the unit. Although I agree that ignorance is not an excuse, in this case this omission seems somewhat less than honest. As it is not general knowledge what one of these units is really worth (DirecTV says $475), it doesn't seem fair that they be 'sold' without disclosing that you will not actually own the unit. Great and very reliable unit. Buy with confidence!
While being an installer for a local retailer of Directv, I have beeen exposed to just about every receiver and dvr that Directv has ever had to offer. Their most recent & current models of HD DVRs' - starting with HR20s through HR23s - are all basically similar to each other, with the HR20s being the only ones that are silver in color. Otherwise, very few changes in the subsequent models ( a little increase in the hard-drive memory, for example). This is a good solid unit with quick response times from the remote and channel guide. It has the same hard drive as the HR20 series (320GB) which is fine for most people and plenty of recording time. If you buy an HR22 or 23 just for the HDD size,,,YOUR WATCHING TO MUCH TV !!!!!
