A superb example of this audio format (SACD), which shows off this classic album beautifully in 5.1 - or in stereo if required/preferred.

This was always an important record for collectors of progressive rock. Although its has not aged quite as well as some Albums of the time it is still worthy of a spin. The orchestra sounds even more vital with this excellent re-master, which brings out the richness of the original master. Of course there are still moments that make you cringe with embarrassment as we are treated to six-form poetry delivered in brummy accents. There are also times when the compositions are not quite up to the high standard of the production. However theses are few and far between. The Moodys were something of a democracy with each writer getting a few tracks on each set. Justin Hayward’s compositions are far and away the best. The strongest tracks being the wonderful Tuesday afternoon, with its invocation of a day spent at Lydiard Park , one of Swindons few decent locations and of course the near perfect Knights in white satin, possible the strongest song the Moodys ever did. Its an odd mix this LP but its certainly one that belongs in any good collection of progressive rock. This is the deluxe edition and we are not let down at all with rare photo’s of the band it their hippy finery and great sleeve notes. Two mix’s of the record one in digital surround sound make up the first disc. As I have noted earlier this is an excellent re-master of an already good mix. The 2nd disc is a real treasure trove of rare mix’s and live recordings of songs that make up the LP and some wonderful extras. I already owned this as an LP but the goodies on this edition made a purchase inevitable. Certainly this is a must own version of this set.Read full review
I must confess I have only just discovered this album, being too young (ahem!) to remember it first time around. Although it does feel a little dated at times, there are some brilliant songs and the sound quality is excellent, especially on Disc 1 which is the Hybrid SACD with 2 channel and surround mix. I love the mixture of Pop/Rock tracks with Classical arrangements and interludes. My favorites songs are Tuesday Afternoon, and of course Nights in White Satin. For the record, Disc 2 is a normal CD, not an SACD, but as it contains bonus material and rarities, that is not an issue for me.
