About this product

Product Information

Joshua Seftel's fierce political satire features an all-star cast headed by John Cusack. Set in a fictionalized Middle East, the film takes United States foreign affairs to comic extremes in a world where corporations rule and wars are completely outsourced. At the start of the film, Turaqistan is occupied by a private American company belonging to a former American vice president (Dan Aykroyd). Cusack comes in as Brand Houser, a hit man slowly growing a conscience and doubting his chosen profession. Hired to take down one of the country's major players, Houser goes undercover as the organizer of a major conference. His title also requires that he make sure the wedding of a local pop singer (Hillary Duff) goes smoothly. While working alongside Marsha Dillon (Joan Cusack), Houser tries to handle and ward off advances from the over-sexualized, pint-sized pop idol. The addition of an intelligent, beautiful, and radical journalist named Natalie (Marisa Tomei) to the mix only makes Houser's job tougher. The more time he spends with Natalie, the more he wishes for the chance to be honest and to escape this killing game. Packed with violence and humor, WAR, INC. works thanks to its strong leads and the romance at the heart of the film. Quirky touches include Houser's memory-triggering obsession with hot sauce, and a Wizard of Oz-like villain (Ben Kingsley) who hides behind a screen as he gives commands under the guise of constantly morphing video images of popular American celebrities. An eclectic soundtrack adds surprising whimsy and, at times, unexpected nuance. War-themed pop numbers by Duff contrast with dark ballads played as scenes of battle fill the screen. Though the plotline is intentionally overloaded and preposterous at times, viewers will find the film's statements relevant to the reality that inspired it.

BEWARE OF THIS SELLER!!!! Seller is sending out cheap versions & not the actual items pictured in their adds. I specifically asked prior to purchasing a collectable dvd from them if it would be the exact item I would receive and they said yes! Received a completely different & CHEAP version of the item actually pictured, & seller says they know they did with absolutely zero apologies! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and threats too!?!?! WOW!!!!

    ...very entertaining [non] fiction...

I was reminded of how entertaining this movie was via some short/cuts viewed on YouTube. Eventually, I knew I needed to own it. The movie is both entertaining and hard hitting in it's (obviously) true-to-life message about business, government and politics! It is satire and malevolence, humor and wit and even the music seems to properly move it along. Now, with that in mind-and the fact the movie is attacking big-business and it's marketing and crooked ways of making money...???...this disk was set up whereby you cannot bypass any/all of the previews/advertisements at the beginning of said film. You must sit through them before being ALLOWED to watch the movie! Frankly, I find it intolerable-if not totally annoying!

  • Entertaining, Yet Falls Short On Art Imitating Life!

"War, Inc." is Joshua Seftel's first director's position on a feature length film comprising a satire of memorable proportions written by Mark Leyner, Jeremy Pikser and John Cusack. John Cusuack was also a producer of this film. At time the production did fantastically in creating a realistic and entertaining satire on today's situation overseas. A satire has to fit into a very particular box and is very difficult to catch on film. This film tries to show the ridiculousness of corporate ethics in helping destroy a country just to profit on its demise when building it back. The satirical lesson here is how silly War really is when it all boils down to being sensible. That's why this film is so hard to capture the essence of. Satires assume the seriousness of the real situations and time ...

  • Hilarious satire, but only if you know what it's lampooning.

If you're not well-versed in current events, you may find this film dull or unfunny. It is very much a satire, as opposed to a slapstick comedy. John Cusack plays it deadpan serious, but the events and people around him are exaggerated versions of reality. If you know who and what it's lampooning, it's hilarious. Sort of a modern version of DOCTOR STRANGELOVE, or a less-crude BORAT. This film proves two things beyond a shadow of a doubt. 1. If Hilary Duff really wanted to be a pop-tart superstar, she could do it by adopting the behavior of her character, Yonica Babyyeah. Her signature song (I Want To Blow You...Up), and the scene with the scorpion, rival Lady Gaga for outrageous sluttiness. 2. If not for her brother John, Joan Cusack would probably never get an acting job. Ever.

  • DIDN'T LIKE THIS. NOT MY KIND OF COMEDY OR HUMOR...

Took a chance on this one. But this type of movie was a little too dark for me. Didn't laugh once.

  • Kinda Stupid

And very predictable..I had it figured out from the start..I admit this film has it's moments some funny, some suspense filled..even some sap and a strange love story...Viewers will love this film if they are into dumb comedies..the storyline was ok, the script was stupid, the acting so so..John Cusack and Marisa Tomei were great, Joan Cusack and Hilary Duff overacted as usual..I give this film 2 out of 5 bars!!
