Great for retrieving and playing numerous CDs, but concerned for mechanical ruggedness.
Although I do use Spotify and Amazon Prime music (with Alexa), I still like playing my numerous CDs. It’s nice to have this Sony 400 CD carousel, which is now paired with a Sony 200 CD player. It certainly beats having to search through stacks of CD cases stored in a cabinet. After organizing and loading the CDs, I created a spread sheet so location of CDs on the 2 carousels is easy. The sound quality of the 400 CD player is great. My main concern is for the drive belt and motor that rotate the 400 CD carousel. When it was half loaded, the carousel spun freely. But, now that it is fully loaded, the motor labors to turn the weight of 400 CDs, although it does work. I hope that this unit doesn’t break down. Bought as a DIY repair
After working on these units, one discovers mechanical problems are almost always due to belt failure. I purchased a second CDP-CX400 to get our entire CD collection 'loaded up'. After replacing the 'melted' loading belt, 'melted' carousel belt and a good cleaning & lubrication of moving parts, the machine operates perfectly. The belts can be found and purchased on eBay and other online suppliers. This unit has a total of three, a CD loading belt, a carousel drive belt & a door open/close belt. There are YouTube videos showing how to replace the belts. The two CDP-CX400 units work together using a 3.5mm mini-plug male-male monaural control cable but a standard 3.5mm mini-plug male-male stereo cable will work. My Review of Multi Disc Changer.
I like the Sony CDP-CX400 Changer i.e. that when connected in unison with my previous CDP-CX200 Disc Changer they make a awesome conbination for enjoying my CD collection. I love the fact that one remote controls one of my changers simualtainsly of one another and that the CDP-CX400 has many programing features that can create added listening pleasure and enjoyment. The only thing I dislike of my CDP-CX400 changer is that the right side rear and back of the cabinet has a small dent in it and after checking the machine out thourghly prior to loading my disc I decided that it would not affect the performance of my machine. In addition the shelving of both of my CD Changers only displays the front of each machine and I'm content with the performance of the CDP-CX400. I do hope that ... 400-disc changer suits me well
I had a 300 and a 400 changer and simply ran out of room, so bought another 400 changer. After a year, I've not had a second's problem with any of them, despite some of the reviews I had read. One remote can handle any of them by just switching the control on the top of the remote once you have set each machine as 1,2, or 3, which, unfortunately, takes a little close reading in the documentation. Also unfortunately, you cannot well control them with Sony's advertised master-slave relationship, as it will not handle all the CD's (stupid). I solved that by just getting audio-jack Y-connectors and linking all three into the same input on my amp. This will actually feed all three inputs at once, mixing three songs, although that is really only a novelty. Have not ... Two units in Shuffle/No Delay mode is better than MP3 player!
I have eight of these CDP CX 400's in active service, routed digitally through a bank of five Audio Authority 1157a auto-sensing switchers, to a Lexicon MC-8 pre-amp/processor. This allows for digital output in shuffle/no delay mode to a high quality DAC, and balanced analog outputs to the pre-amp and amps. The sound is beyond belief, effortless is the term that comes to mind. It does have a pause in the decoding when switching CD's, sometimes pops or misses the first beat of the song, but I feel that is a small price to pay for the superior sound of the external DAC. The sound quality of uncompressed files is far superior to MP3, used CD's are inexpensive, and the simplicity of loading CD's make this system the right one for me. Of course, I can't put four cubic feet of components in my ...
