Somewhere in England Revisited
The story is familiar to many who have followed George Harrison's career: the first time he submitted the songs for this album, Warner Bros. turned it down and told him to try again. There weren't any hits on it, or so they told him. What came to be Somewhere In England is a very fine, very fluid album that is full of catchy tunes and clever lyrics. The fact that the lead song, Blood From A Clone, made it onto this lp is beyond belief, since it's a zinger aimed at the very people who turned down his initial offering. There is a definite country influence in several of the songs, although it never comes across as country or even country rock. It's just George Harrison music. The words are poignant and heartfelt in Life Itself, a beautiful song written like a genuine psalmist offering his ... Save The World is a witty, disarmingly seductive diatribe against the "anti-earth" legions whom he so disliked. It's a melody that stays with you, although most of us would find it difficult to sing ourselves. I like everything on this album. The two non-Harrison tunes are fun, surprising additions to this set. It's good to hear him doing these classic songs from Hoagy Carmichael, stretching himself into a different genre. Unconsciousness Rules is a fast and engaging song and like most Harrisongs, compels you to think about something beyond what's obvious. Handwriting's On The Wall is a favorite, lilting and truly beautiful melodically. To top it all off is the hit tribute song to John Lennon, All Those Years Ago. It is no doubt the most familiar song on Somewhere In England, and continues to provide a good feeling in it's look back on their history together. I think most people can find something in this album. It certainly belongs in the library of George fans.

This is an excellent album by George Harrison. It features "All Those Years Ago" a great song he wrote the about John Lennon. The other songs he wrote for the album are also very good and made this another successful album for George.

Awesome music all in one great CD!
I bought this music cd as a gift for my husband. It has one of Harrison's greatest hits, the song "All Those Years Ago", which is a tribute to John Lennon. Pristine sound quality of this remaster is definately a plus. George's slide guitar work is in top form on this fine collection of ballads, pop, and standards.
