Frontier House is a reality show from PBS. The show puts three modern day families out in the Montana wilderness to see if they can make it. The three families fight nature, situations that arise, and sometimes each other as they attempt to fit themselves into their new frontier life. This is my favorite of all the reality shows aired on PBS because it shows that hard work, a minimalistic attitude and an appreciation for a simpler life is worth something. At the end of the show the kids were interviewed and they said they had more fun in 1883 with less, than they did once they were transported back to 2002 with all their electronics, video games, fast food and all the rest. One kid said he discovered his imagination. I think this says something. This show is well done, the music is well done, and I appreciate this show on the whole. My husband and I have watched it over and over.Read full review
I love these PBS reality series that give us insight about living in past decades.

It is interesting to watch modern people try to cope with the hardships and dangers of frontier life. It is downright fascinating to watch the individual reactions of the personalities involved in this experiment. Some are gracious, industrious and very close to noble. Some are trying to beat the system, striking out in ingenious ways of coping (by breaking the laws of manufacture and trade - then and now). Some are vindictive and competitive, pitching themselves against the other families in any way possible; jealous and resentful... Yep. These are real people in a situation much tougher than they expected and it is good tv. The kids are awesome too, a solid mix of personalities.

This depends on your interest in the subject matter, which is three modern day families living in Montana, utilizing only the items available in the 1800's pioneer days. They were presented with three different setups, each requiring unique building opportunities. Watching how each family from three different economic backgrounds coped with frontier problems was very entertaining. No electric, no gas, to cars, no modern conveniences, period clothing. Those of us who think we could make it would be very surprised. A great watch.
