    History made engrossing

    President Harry Truman once said: "If you want to understand the world today, read about the Roman emperors; they had the same troubles that we have now." "I, Claudius)" tells this critical part of history in a fine way. The cast (led by Derek Jacobi), script, sets, costumes, etc. all are first-rate. This product ranks with "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" and "Shogun" as entertaining history.

    PBS - The Best

    Excellent portrayal of the dysfunctional families of Rome and their disregard for human life. The actors are superb - from youth through old age, telling the story we'd never had known were it not for Claudius. Great story of the"family idiot" rising above his handicaps in spite of a cruel, unrelenting barrage of ridicule while always being laughed at. A must have for history buffs!

    Great production...what TV used to be and could and should be.

    I Claudius is a great production for novice ancient history buffs but one has to be aware that Roman History, as written by the Romans themselves is much like reading the National Enquirer (Expiring minds want to know). None of the characters were actually as good or evil as they are shown in this production; especially Livia and to a lesser extent Caligula (John Hurt was quite good as was Patrick Stewart was as Seganus). Great production for the sets, costuming, and Roman attitudes.

    Engrossing historical drama

    I saw this serial years ago when i was in college. This was one of the best shows that remember that i have seen. Story acting every thing was perfect. Always wanted to have a the dvd of this show. I am happy that i bought now.
