An interesting cast fills out this solemn production based on the play by Martin Sherman (who also wrote the screenplay). During WWII, a Berlin homosexual is caught up in the Nazi hysteria. After being forced to kill his lover, he is placed in a prison camp, where he lies so he will be classified as Jewish rather than homosexual. After a series a constitution-breaking incidents, his love for a fellow male prisoner brings him to admit his true nature. Features Mick Jagger in a brief role as a drag queen.

  • 1997 Mick Jagger, Ian MacKellen & Clive Owen Gay WWII

Sir Mick Jagger (lead singer of the Rolling Stones band) as Greta is convincing as a transvestite during the beginning of Hitler's anti-GLBT book burning & human round ups. Sir Ian MacKellen is equally convincing in a small part as a closeted gay man. This 104 minute gay, transvestite, and transsexual men WWII holocaust film is the best (non)documentary portrayal of historical WWII facts, that I have experienced. Ian McKellen's use of the word "Fluffs" for gay men is amusing & probably historical of the language used in early 1930's Berlin, where GLBT life once flourished before Hitler (also see Liza Minnelli & Joel Grey in "Cabaret" for a similar theme). Jagger's song which asks 'will we be remembered when we're gone' is chilling & eerily unforgettable. To the plot: Clive Owen pretends ...

  • Awesome movie and a great value for the money.

Bent is a drama concerning the Germans and their concentration camps. Not only the treatment of the Jews but also Gays as well. Very powerful movie. I am really glad to have it in my collection. I watched it the very day I got it. I really enjoyed it and I am sure you will too.
