Very good filter
This filter does a good job of keeping a clean tank. I'd say it's better at providing ariation and water movement while removing more waste with its cartridges compared to the aqueon brand. It also has a bit more space to add in different filter media. Best thing about it compared to the other brand is that replacing the cartridge won't throw away the BB colony of a cycled tank. As a beginner aquarist I did as instructed to toss out dirty cartridges, but always had problems with my water having mini cycles. Now I know that's because I was tossing out the BB each time. So I learned to seed the new media with the old for 2wks before discarding it. This filter is alot more forgiving for beginners who don't know this since it can save you the stress and money from losing fish. This filter does a good job of keeping a clean tank. A fine filter at a great price.
I am currently using this filter in a ten gallon aquarium for two baby red eye slider turtles. Despite the natural messiness of turtles, this filter is doing an excellent job keeping the tank clear. I haven't even had to use an extra filter cartridge yet, but it's good knowing the filter will take an extra and work even better. The bio wheel is taking a long time to grow beneficial bacteria (I've been using it almost a month), but it should be fine. My only real complaint is that the bio wheel itself is very unbalanced. If you don't have the filter at the correct angle it won't spin at all. Good Filter
I bought this filter for my sons 10 gallon aquarium. Filter works good, I liked that it would handle up to a 20 gallon tank just in case we ever decide to get a slightly larger fish tank. Replacement filters are affordable, we've used the filter for a few weeks or more now and everything seems great. My wife and son both think it's loud, I think it is quiet? They complain of the water trickling noise of the water coming out of the filter, which you would hear with any filter. It was unplugged once and left over night off. When plugged back in it wouldn't run. Had to take it off the tank, clean it out, take the little prop out and once back together it fired right up.
