About this product

Product Information

Bette Midler stars in the title role of "Stella," a 1990's update of two previous tearjerkers. Brassy barmaid Stella Claire charms the pants off blueblood Stephen Dallas, and eventually they have a child. Because of their different values and personalities, Stella and Stephen do not marry. She, however, decides to raise their daughter, Jenny, by herself. Although the feisty mother and Jenny have a warm, if sometimes tense, relationship, Stella realizes she must give away her girl to a wealthy man if Jenny is to enjoy all that life has to offer. This, however, would mean parting company with her lovely daughter.

    Stella : ok movie But doesn’t hold a candle to the original Stella Dallas with Barbara Stanwyck that’s my opinion!

    Stella was an OK movie with Bette Midler. It was OK. But can’t compare to the original Stella Dallas with Barbara Stanwyck. Which is the best! I like them both but I prefer the original with Barbara Stanwyck.

    STELLA

    This was one of Bette's early movies. She plays a very crude/uneducated woman who has an affair with a medical student she met in a bar. They have a baby girl together but never marry. Their child grows up to be a wonderful and lovely young woman. Bette does things that embarass her child terribly. Bette knows in her heart that it will be best for her child if she lives with her dad. He can give her culture...something her mom does not truly understand. In the end the child marries into a great family. Bette does not go to the wedding because she does not want to embarass her child. But she watches the I do's from an outside window. She just wants to see her face. Moving story of love and devotion.

    This is a modern version of Stella Dallas. I have the book, the silent version of the movie plus the Barbara Stanwyck version. I just love this story and this version is great.

    Your collection is incomplete without STELLA !

    Be prepared to experience every possible feeling known to mankind as you watch Stella. It will leave you with lingering thoughts for years to come and stop you from making rash judgments about people forever. Love has many dimensions in this movie and you will wonder if your love could ever be as strong. Clearly a movie for the ladies, but men can learn special lessons too. A++++ and 2 thumbs up !
