About this product

Product Information

Return to the roots of survival horror gaming with Resident Evil. This original entry in the popular horror series follows fan favorites Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. On their first mission to Raccoon City, these team members are quickly greeted by murderous creatures. Forced to fight, the complete team is soon trapped in a mansion that exceeds any nightmare. Long hallways and confined spaces bring a new level of horror to life. Using rendered backgrounds and state-of-the-art graphics for the period, its impact is still strong among Sony PS1 games. Watch as the team encounters horror's most evil creations. Play as Valentine or Redfield through the maze of rooms that make up this frightening location. Along the way, you'll find rendered backgrounds that offer a new level of PS1 realism. Search through every corner of a room to find the secrets of the Umbrella Corporation. Solve the puzzles or your character's condition will suffer. It's not just zombies in the mix of Resident Evil. Animals as well as things that have never been seen before haunt this world. Fight your way through creatures that defy imagination, including a gigantic snake that towers above you. The solo battles will take everything, including knives and guns, to survive. Collect them from fallen competitors as well as find them in hidden areas in order to cut through every challenge.Replay value is something that Resident Evil is known for when it comes to long-play games. With a PlayStation playing time of up to 8 hours, from beginning to end, its design focuses on fast run times. It doesn't take long to navigate each scare. Much like the rare horror films that it replicates, Resident Evil is dedicated to quick scares. Take on the full PlayStation Resident Evil storyline in less than half a day. When the games are over, the intense graphics turn your box into something you can display as art. Stack it among other rare horror PlayStation games or alone in its own sealed box for the ultimate gaming display.Under the direction of great video game mastermind Shinji Mikami, this PS1 entry revolutionized how players approach years of inventory and save points. Use limited inventory spots to preserve valuable items, such as healing herbs, that can be combined later. They can be accessed at any time while playing this PlayStation selection. Look in each special inventory box to swap out items or long weapons. Check in on new selections by finding the nearest save room. Points are located throughout the PS1 game in the guise of typewriters. Preserve the progress of each task you complete without remembering a complicated password. Overwrite current files or create a new point based on your progress in the game. The PS1 memory card is designed to hold all of those points for years of gaming possibilities. Every detail is brought to life through the extensive PS1 technology. Capcom pushed the system to its limits for years of terrifying gameplay. A 33 MHz processor produces seamless transitions between rooms. Catch every breath and whisper as the game utilizes the Sony PlayStation console's ADPCM card. Resident Evil is one of those titles every gamer needs in their collection since it offers thrilling gameplay for years to come.

The original that kick started one of the greatest survival horror series!

While the "tank" controls take some getting used to, this game is a classic! One of the main games that started the "survival horror" genre in video games and launched a series of titles that are still running today! The game play is fun, the story compelling, and always leaves you wondering what is waiting around the corner. If you like survival horror games, and have still not played this game, you are doing yourself a disservice by not getting it and playing it now!

  • amazing.

i first played this game when i was in 8th grade. from the second the cinematics came on, i was HOOKED. no other game (aside from Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain) has ever drawn me in to the point where i genuinely felt afraid for the characters life as if i feared for my own. no game has this much atmosphere, a plot which captures you entirely and doesn't let go. i'd read advertisements, revues, studied the back of the game case for a while (not having a playstation until i was in 8th grade, buying it would have been quite useless. i've since beaten this game, the 2nd, 3rd, & code veronica. i'm waiting to send payment for a ps2 and looking forward to conquering RE4. this is the closest to being in a B-movie as many of us can ever hope to come. this may be my favorite ...

  • One of the best PS1 games of all time.

First played as a kid in the 90's. Held up pretty well. Don't worry if you get stuck, as there are a few great walk throughs online. Could have used one back then. If you're new to the game, take my advice and play as Jill. Chris is more for the advanced player. Oh, and remember; if you want the original experience don't buy the Directors cut. It replaced the original score with a horrible one. Pretty sure that's the version you'll be getting if you buy the upcoming PS classic so watch out.

  • Resident Evil Original Playstation Longbox

I love this game, it was the first of its kind to spark such controversy for a zombie game that includes horror/action/suspense/puzzle. Can be challenging and easy. Game has a great plot, betrayal/survival. Game play was simple so it was easy to pick up and play for anyone! You use multiple weapons to defeat the many variety of bosses and creatures/monsters cause by a virus, (T Virus), that turns people into zombies or undead for animals. Blood, gun action, running, adventure, puzzle solving, and scares await for those who decide to play the game that sparked the Resident Evil movies series and over 20 Resident Evil games.

  • Best survival horror game

I have had this game back in 1997 and it was like a revolution in horror video games history, you feel the real horror when you fighting zombies and other creatures. I still enjoy resident evil although it's been released 20 years ago, I hope that Capcom make the old school resident evil, nowadays resident evil series is more like to adventure than to survival horror
