Can a game offer plenty of finger-twitching action, wow-worthy visuals, and still tell a story that's sophisticated, even profound? Can videogames convey social and political messages and still be a lot of fun? The answer, of course, is yes. It's just that in an industry so focused on technical accomplishment and razzle-dazzle, it's rare when all that style meets some very real substance. With Beyond Good & Evil, we've got one of those rarities. And it's a darned good time, too. In one sense, it's easy to describe Beyond Good & Evil, the latest game from Rayman creator Michel Ancel. Its core game play is very similar to recent Zelda titles, especially the generally excellent The Wind Waker, with puzzle-laden "dungeons," vehicular transport to different parts of the game world, an intuitive combat system, and even heart containers. Add to this plenty of stealth levels, hovercraft racing, classic shooting sequences, and even some platformer-style elements (though somehow without the frustrating jumping). Then wrap it all up with a sophisticated story involving rich characters in a vivid, beautifully realized game world. Quick summary? It's Zelda for grown-ups, without the annoying fetch-quests.Read full review
The learning curve isn't too bad; I was playing smoothly in 15 minutes or so. Beyond Good and Evil has a great story line, and you get to have a boat right off the bat, and later you get to fly around. I actually found myself too high when I was practicing how to do it. I found myself (I am scared of heights, it get to my head) getting anxious. I was saying Oh My Gosh! And then it happened again. ..SO fun. You go around taking pictures of different creatures and puzzle solve to progress through the game. The puzzles are not so hard that the fun factor leaves you. I liked the fact that if you died, you would start from the room where you died; you don't have to go through the whole section again. The game has many saved areas so the stress factor is small. It has been said, “It is the greatest game that no one has played” I agree, it is one of my favorites. I love RPG’s and sometimes to get a variety out of my game play I will play a Zelda or Mario game. Here you will have a unique experience in this RPG; I will always remember playing this game. It was so different from anything I have ever played; it is not a long game but it is a fun game from start to finish.Read full review
Great game and unlike any other I have seen. It requires you to investigate various occurances, take photos(to earn money) and solve puzzles. The fighting style is reminisent of Zelda (N64, Gamecube, Wii). Good graphics, satisfying gameplay, and easy to learn controls makes a good choice for pre-teens to adults. The storyline and cut-scenes are entertaining and well done. I bought it because I saw it described as "one of the best games you never bought" on G4TV and the price was a steal, however after playing it I would have spent double. It is a great game to add to any gamers library, espeacially if you love adventure games.
What I liked about this game was the exceptional story line, well developed characters, and extremely interactive game play. If you have ever played Tomb Raider, there are many similarities. What makes this game slightly better than Tomb Raider is the absence of guns and stellar graphics (see the Head Alpha Leader chase on the roof of the Und. Section). A personal annoyance I have is with the final fight scene, and overall with the whole Domz part of the game. Why do they have to introduce disgusting chanting and religious dialogue into what could have easily been left as alien encounter. Otherwise this game has wide appeal and is a treat to Adventure craving gamers!
I love this game because of the fact that since the beginning of the game you are drawn into a whole different world. The characters are wonderful. The game play is nice, set up differently so it's not boring like the normal setup of games. The Camera angles are nice, and the storyline is creative. On a negative note, the game I thought was too short. That and the fact that they have been taking so long to make a sequel to this game. I can't explain exactly how this game is, because you'll have to experience it for yourself to see if you like it.
