This quality-built 8-bay battery charger is well suited for its intended purpose, with bays for either AA or AAA cells of differing voltages and currents. It has individual LED display readouts for each charging bay in order to test and/or charge each cell, and which also indicate the state of charge and the cell's readiness for use. Cells of differing size and voltage can be charged simultaneously, and there's a safety override for any unintentional misuse or wrong polarity insertion of cells. It can also be used to "soft" charge cells in order to reduce charging stresses, although this does take longer—say overnight for example. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this Maha charger for its pricing, form and function, and its consistent reliability. Note that its wall socket ... Good charger, but with a minor problem
This charger will work fine for anyone needing to charge AA size batteries. However, for those who want to charge AAA batteries you need to be aware of a design issue with the charger. The 8 negative pole clips used for charging AAA batteries are very low, or near to the bottom of the slot that the batteries sit in while charging. As a result, batteries that have any casing whatsoever that wraps around onto the battery's negative pole will likely not charge. Even a small amount of the battery's exterior case wrapped around onto the minus pole will create a gap between the pole and the clip in the slot. Once I realized what was causing the problem, I used an Xacto knife to shave the casing off the minus end of each battery. Doing so allowed good contact to be made and the batteries then ... Maha PowerEx Chargers are top of the line. Excellent quality, and built-in computer tech to fine-tune the charge. One heads-up is that this unit only charges newer battery types: NiCd and NiMH. My older Maha charger does those, plus older battery types. I'll be making a gift of this new unit to my Sister. Also, the AAA batteries have to be inserted snugly, or they pop out. Great for charging single batteries
This unit is perfect for charging 1-8 batteries at a time. Sometimes you only have that 1 that was in the flashlight to charge, well with this you can do it! You can also deep cycle them to get the best charge possible. I have been converting everything to AA's for standard batteries in my home. What a great value!!!!
