      Best tool I’ve bougth in a while

      I’ve bought this to install iron spindles at home. With the right blade, this cut like butter. I used with a wood, iron amd steel cutting saw and it workred flawesly. The matrix attachment was very useful to change between saw and drill in a second. It uses standard blades, and changing between wood and steel was easy. Overall very satisfied with the product and how it performed.

      Watch the heat

      With a change of blade this saw cuts anything. Put a tree pruning blade on and trim or cut trees. This is the main thing I use the saw for. Only problem with the unit is when it over heats. The plastic on the blade lock will melt. This makes the changing of blade almost impossible. B&D service centers tell me they do not have parts for this. Instead of throwing the saw away this is what I did. I took the unit apart. There are only a few screws. Removed the plastic blade lock and put the unit back together. Usinng a flat screwdriver the main locking lever can be operated. Not as convient as the plastic but you can keep cutting. This is the third uniit I've purchased the first two did melt. Bottom line would be not use it for long extended periods. Give it a short cooling time now and then. ...

      Solid, high-value add-on

      Haven't put it through lots of hard use yet but the added value to my Matrix base kit is huge. A reciprocating saw, with its range of available blades, is truly the "shotgun" of saws. Getting a portable one for ~20 bucks means it will pay for itself in time savings quickly. Combined with the impact driver and drill modules I can strap a *lot* of useful kit to my belt without unmanageable weight while spending less than half what I would on a similar tool set from any other brand. A reciprocating saw is not a super precise tool but with a bit of care it's good enough for the vast majority of what I do. If anything, I think the weakest link in the system is the batteries that overheat and hit thermal cutoff under really heavy use. Get a spare or two and that becomes less of an issue.
