Dr. Muto has a problem -- he's inadvertently blown up his home planet! Tasked with discovering a new source of energy for the beleaguered world, the quirky doctor manages instead to cause planet Midway to shatter into fragments. As the bumbling mad scientist, players must traverse four different worlds, all the while acquiring DNA, Isotopes, Terra, and other such items that will allow him to rebuild his "broken" planet. Though only capable of such basic feats as running and jumping, Dr. Muto can, using his Splizz device, extract the DNA of any being encountered on his travels.<br><br>Once the correct DNA combination has been pilfered from their unwitting hosts, Dr. Muto can morph into one of any number of half-breed mutants -- comical caricatures that retain some of Muto's characteristics along with those of the creature he morphs into. Along with cosmetic differences, each of these new forms imbues the doctor with new abilities and powers. The spider form for example, allows Muto to shoot webbing and scamper across cobwebs strewn about the environments, while the mouse form facilitates access to smaller, previously inaccessible areas. Of course, with each transformation comes a caveat, whether it be reduced speed or lessened attack power. To complete the game's objectives and defeat bosses, Dr. Muto must make use of the intrinsic abilities of each mutation.<br><br>Blocking his path are numerous objectives, puzzles, and of course hostile creatures. The latter include beasts known as Gomers that can be dispatched or alternatively, "captured." Utilizing a device reminiscent of Wild 9's Rig weapon, players can suspend enemies in the air momentarily, before hurling them at switches and other obstacles. Dr. Muto is aided in his quest by a sentient computer known as AL, who provides the bespectacled protagonist with advice and information pertaining to the many items the doctor must collect, along with a plethora of snide remarks.

This is a very original game. The story is comical and presented well. There is a substantial amount of play-time in this game as the levels are quite extensive. This is not a title that you could finish easily in a weekend, partly because of the bulk of levels to explore and partly because it presents more of a challenge than most action/adventure games. The last planet is especially challenging. This game provides loads of mni-challenges as well as the main challenge of collecting machine parts. You rarely find games in this price range that provide as many hours of entertainment. My only complaint is that the controls for Muto in his spider form are difficult to use and in the final boss fight, you have no choice but to fight as the spider. Dr. Muto for the PS2 is an awesome video game that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys fast paste action games. The game graphics are great. The story is very entertaining. And it kept me interested all the way thru. The control of the game gets alittle hectic at times, but its still fun and not to hard to get the hang of it. Might not be the best game for very young children because it does get pretty fast at times. If you do play this game and have trouble beating it. I suggest getting the game cheats from online and that will definately make it even easier to beat.Dr. Muto for the PS2 is an awesome video game that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys fast paste action games. Great value on ebay for old video games.
I bought this for my son who had owned this game when it first came out. He was reminiscing about playing this game and wanted it again, so it must be fun. I haven't actually played it, but from what I understand the "scientist" has to rebuild a planet that he accidentally destroys and on the way aquires "powers" to change into different animals in order to accomplish different tasks.
