  • Sarah, Plain and Tall, Trilogy

This is my second set. Never want to be without it. The writing, acting, costumes, photography and sets are absolutely award winning. Taking place on the Kansas prairie from 1910-1918,Sarah comes from Maine to be a mail-order bride and mother to a widower and his two young children. "Family" rated, yet so realistic in showing a calf and a baby being born, tornados, prairie fires, snow storms and the hardships of those days. But, most of all we see the deep love of family and friendships. This trilogy is a "classic". Be sure to view them in the correct order (there are three videos.) If you can only find one, start with Sarah, Plain and Tall. Skylark and Winter's End are the sequels. *****

  • Understated and Beautiful

Who knew Christopher Walken could pull off the role of a shy widower-farmer? Both he and Glenn Close are such huge stars that I expected scene-grabbing and self-conscious posturing. I was wrong on both counts. A quiet, encouraging story with plenty of understated chemistry between Walken and Close. The weak spots were the trumped-up interpersonal conflicts (as though a story isn't a story without them) and the adorable daughter who, unfortunately, just isn't a great actress. But these are quibbles. A beautiful film.

  • Heartwarming

This is a great family film. A widowed farmer who has two children places an advertisement in the paper stating that he is in search of a wife. Sarah, plain and tall, answers the call, on trial basis. The movie is the story of how they get to know one another, and attempt to overcome some extreme differences. It's a film that will keep the whole family entertained. Lots of clean, fun humor and touching moments, as well as great excitement, and there's a rather unexpected twist to the ending! "Sarah, Plain and Tall" is a heart-warming movie your family will be sure to enjoy!

  • Sarah,Plain and Tall(1992,vhs)

This movie was so good, I wanted to have it to view over and over. I loved the fact that I can view it and then stop and resume watching at another time and not have to guess where I left off (unlike dvd's)and that is one of the reasons I bought a vhs version not to mention the cost was fantastic. I loved the fact that it was new and never used. The only thing I didn't like was that I could not get the two secuals to this movie. The other drawback is it isn't as compact as a dvd but if space is not an issue it doesn't matter.

  • Good story even if Sarah was empty headed on what a prairie wmen goes thru.

Great movie but Sarah was really lame for not knowing what a poor prairie women out on the dry range goes through before leaving her homeland to travel so far to live out in one. In that respect, she was pretty stupid. She also tries to keep the animals on the farm as pets and give them names and throws a huge histerics fit when she finds out what they do with them. Hey, either eat or die. Basically if I lived where she did then saw where she was going to live, I'd have taken the train back to Maine the same day. Still a good movie and well worth watching.
