Definitely needs a metal bracket instead of the plastic mount for stability. Had to get a longer bolt to mount it on my Sportster. It was rattling the first time I rode with it because I was afraid to tighten the mounting screw too much on the plastic. My husband added a quarter turn extra to it and the plastic bracket snapped.
