Not a first class vacuum!
Good vacuum when new but very delicate. Became disabled in normal use. Repair parts very expensive considering they are plastic and original cost for the vacuum. Old vacuum was Electrolux and 20 years old where the Dyson was 3 years old and beyond economical repair in normal use.

Easy to manuveur, very good suction but a NIGHTMARE on stairs
We heard so many good things about this brand so we splurged. It definitely is extremely easy to manuveur, has very good suction, but could be better designed. I really wish it had a headlight like my old vacuum which really helps in dark corners, under sofas and beds and also closets. Also vacuuming stairs is not easy AT ALL. The stiff tube is too long and the flexible portion too short and difficult to manuveur on steps. I don't know anyone that would be able to hold the vacuum upright with one arm and vacuum with the other (stairs are a two person job, EXTREMELY inconvenient). The cord keeper also seems very light weight and flimsy (I'm afraid it will snap off after a short while). All in all, we are happy with the purchase but we're glad we did not pay full retail, it's not ... We heard so many good things about this brand so we splurged. Good Vaccuum, definite upgrade from my previous model, but has drawbacks.
Overall a very nice improvement over my previous Windtunnel. Definitely has more suction, is easier to clean/maneuver. It does a much better job cleaning my carpeted floors, and the auto-adjust to hardwood floors makes cleanup a snap. At the refurbished price, it was a good deal, but at full price not worth it. The unit looked brand new, hard to tell it was a refurb. Definitely has a few drawbacks though: 1) It is very difficult to use the hose based accessories, the hose is not anywhere near as good as my old one, and the handle on the end of the hose seems to get in the way. 2) The proprietary size of the attachments, means all my other attachments are useless with this one. 3) The stand feels weak, and I wonder how long it will last. Marriage saver!
I chose to wait a while before writing a review to give me a chance to use it for a time and see if it was really worth the investment. So far, I'm loving my Dyson! I do not have animals in my home. They're back room/garage/basement/outdoor only keeping my house 'hair-free'. Instead, I have a farmer husband and grandchildren. My Dyson can suck up wood chips, hay, cracker crumbs, dirt from overturned plants, and the like. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because I find the filter hard to get to when it's time to clean it. I try keeping the whole inside clean in order to keep the motor running at optimum working order. The suction is so strong that the hose has difficulty stretching out when using the wand. My carpets and wood floors are cleaner than when I used my Electrolux, ... Everything you seen advertised about it is true. Easy to use; deep cleans; lightweight and navigates easily; handy tools; easy to empty and the filters will be a cinch to clean. It is still very new and I do find the extention hosing very stiff on the wand - I struggle with keeping it extended while using hand tools. I see this resolving with time. Wonderful price. After Christmas store prices nearly $200.00 more for the same model, and ours was factory sealed with warranty included.Everything you seen advertised about it is true.
