The Right Switch is the Right Choice
Had a switch that wanted to turn itself off. Then it got worse. Went through the Seven Circles of Hell trying to find out what switch I needed. I finally found one on Ebay (a vendor who took great pains to answser several questions) and it was a Sierra switch. As it turned out, comparing the Key# format, it was a direct replacement for the one that went bad. That one lasted 4 years. From what I learned in my web searching, they all fail sooner or later. But being able to connect the new to the existing harness was worth a ton of what I couldn't imagine, Plus, numerous sources said Sierra was the best switch out there. Some disinformation is found on the net. Some say this switch is for Magneto only. I have an Optimax Mercury 2014 engine with a belt driven alternator. And this switch is working (so far, ((something I say always about anything))), like a charm. I have another one as a back up (assuming I live another 4 years or so. Wire colors matter. Some "solutions" offered by local Merc dealers would say otherwise. Wire colors matter. So, in short, I am very happy with spending the time to find the right switch. And this one is the right one for a Merc Optimax 2014 (or later than 199x). The Merc # is 88107A5. And the wires are red, purple, black, black/chartreuse, yellow/red, and yellow/black. Go Sierra for the few dollars more. Nobody wants to be towed.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
