Before it's time...
Wrestling Society X was a VERY short lived, high impact Pro Wrestling show featured on MTV. Now MTV was too stupid to keep the show. They had some of the best wrestlers in the world including veterans and young, talented superstars from WWE, WCW, ECW, RoH, XPW, AAA from Mexico and even Dragon Gate from Japan. Every episode was 30 minutes long including commercial breaks with often times 3 matches with a 10 minute time limit. The shows were all held in the WSX Bunker, a sound stage with very cool decoration including awesome graphiti, awesome lighting, nice camera angles and even some cheesy (often hated) camera effects. I for one liked it. But all of the serious marks wouldn't let themselves enjoy it. Ratings were good, the talent was there. MTV canned the show however due to a fireball ... All matches are no rules, all weapons legal, no holds barred and even some Deathmatches featuring light tubes, explosives, barbed wire and even fake electrocution! The matches are subject to the commercial break and do not show you what happened during said commercials. All musical guests do commentary after they perform, but, none of their performances are on any of the DVDs. Wrestling Society X: The good and the bad.
WSX as a product appeared to be heavy on cheesy gimmick matches like the Paranah Death match (I've seen goldfish with more attitude), exploding casket match, and a battle royal with an electrified fence and exploding barbed wire, not to mention that they digitally replaced a fireball with an extremely fake looking fireball. On the positive side though WSX had excellent production quality and some top notch high flying and pure wrestling matches. WSX featured several guys who could be and should be top wrestlers in WWE & TNA. A few of the wrestlers who really stood out to me were Jack Evans (currently in Ring of Honor), Matt Sydal (currently a WWE developmental talent), The Human Hurricane, Matt Classic (WWE developmental talent and former Ring Of Honor competitor Colt Cabana), Teddy Hart ... If your looking for extreme violence & dangerous high spots, go check out CZW or the original ECW. If your looking for incredible high-flying, super past paced, edge of your seat action and moves that'll having you wearing out your rewind and slow motion buttons, then WSX is for you. I highly recommend this DVD to pure wrestling fans. You've just got to look over a lot of the cheesy gimmickry that was Wrestling Society X.
