Synopsis
Down on the Cajun bayou, a swamp witch makes a whole family into "poor little things" by shrinking them and their belongings. They can also now talk to animals. With strong Cajun good humor, spirit, and pride, the family perseveres in this colorful children's picture book., Marie and Uncle Arnel believe in Acadian tradition, and on their usual visit to the swamplands, they stumble upon the fabled Swamp Witch. No one had actually seen the Swamp Witch before, but with one glance from her, you'd really be a poor little thing. Legend states that her penetrating stare can shrink your whole family to twelve inches tall. And that's just what happened! Now Marie and Uncle Arnel are far from home and too small to cross the marsh to their pirogue, but that doesn't stop them from enjoying the adventure ahead or their new stature. No one can shrink true Cajun spirit, for there will always be gumbo on the stove when you come home. The togetherness of friends and family is a large part of Cajun culture, and with big smiles, warm hearts, and good times, they never give up. ABOUT THE AUTHOR In true Acadian spirit, Alison Hoffman Lane was inspired by her children to create a series of stories about Uncle Arnel and his family. Lane's love of nature was accentuated by her husband, Mike Lane, the founder of RodnReel.com, one of the most popular fishing Web sites in the United States. Lane is a registered nurse in New Orleans, Louisiana. ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR Egil Thompson received an associate's degree in art from Santa Rosa Junior College and graduated summa cum laude from Sonoma State University with a bachelor of fine arts degree. He also attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and had a recent retrospective of nine paintings at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, California. - b***r (756)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI've bought a lot of online books from book sellers, and they've been in the condition described, but the flimsy packing has done some damage to several books. Waddle is the only Book Seller that sent this book in a box - and not only was the book in the great condition described, but it remained in that condition when I rec'vd it! 10-Stars!!!The Great American Recipe Cookbook: Regional Cuisine and Family Favorites from (#126065017074)
- a***0 (168)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseThe book was sent in a plain plastic envelope without cardboard stiffners, nor outside marking saying "do not bend". The book arrived with a major crease of its spine. I contacted seller; sending him photos and he replied asking me to send the coloring book back to him with a tracking number and then he would reimburse me. Since the book only cost $10 and it would cost me another $5 and a trip to the Post Office, I decided to just throw it out in the dumpster. Disappointed in the seller.
