I don't think most people understand what they are. A regular charger charges the cart and then shuts off and will not come back on again. A float charger will come back on when the battery charge drops to a certain point. So that if you are gone for several months the battery stays charged. This charger works fine though I haven't had them very long. So I will see how that goes. I recommend it.
