Douglas returns to the screen for the first time since suffering a stroke, in a role that seems to be written specifically for him. He plays Harry Agensky, a former boxing champ who journeys with his son and 15-year-old grandson to Nevada in order to hunt for magic diamonds that were promised to him by a gangster quite some time ago. Along the way, the trio stop off at a brothel and initiate the grandson, while taking care of their own business. It's a treasure hunt for diamonds, and it is a fun trip.
Some people think Kirk Douglas shouldn't have made this movie due to his age and the aftereffects of a stroke. I think it was a perfect fit. All the actors are very good, and the story is interesting. It's a three-generation family trip for Grandpa, who wants to relive a little bit of his somewhat shady past. Their stopover at a brothel in Las Vegas is one of the highlights, and Lauren Bacall made a charming Madam. Nowadays you never know how something will end, but this one ended exactly right. My children and grandchildren watched it with me after a family get-together, and everyone enjoyed it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
