SynopsisMarianne Faithfull debuted on the sixties London pop scene with her 1964 hit As Tears Go By. Wooed by many, she was Mick Jagger's lover who lived her life on the cutting edge until she succumbed to much darker habits. Returning triumphantly from addiction and homelessness to singing, songwriting and acting. Faithfull never fails to maintain the creed never apologize, never explain.
Marianne Faithfull put her stamp on the '60's...and beyond. She will be missed...
Marianne Faithfull was part of the genesis of The Rolling Stones by her association with the group especially her relationship with Mick Jagger. She was the inspiration for Wild Horses and Sister Morphine and survived the pitfalls of the rock lifestyle to become an actress and author. She was a prominent figure for years and remained relevant in later years.
This is a rather boring autobiography by a sixties phenomenon, Marianne Faithfull. She was a great beauty, granted, but her drug use alone simply astonishes me. The reader must wince through this relentless account of a person whose self-indulgence and failure to be honest with her own self lead to horrible addictions which unavoidably end in several attempted suicides. Perhaps I am most perturbed by the sheer human waste taking place in an otherwise undeniably highly intelligent and talented woman. As a result, the book is exhausting, and I can only recommend it with great caution to those with stronger constitutions.
