Portable reading at its best
I really like the Kindle line in general. The Paperwhite is a more expensive and arguably better alternative but for a basic no frills ereader, this one does great. Faulty battery that wasn't disclosed.
Bought this because Amazon Prime day deals were terrible this year. I bought this fully aware that there were cosmetic damages as disclosed in the description. It was also listed as "fully functional" which is somewhat of a fib (I feel like lie is too extreme of a word) because the battery drains insanely quick. The appeal of the Kindle is the battery life that lasts weeks bc it has no backlight and no LCD/LED set up. I plugged this in, it charged from 0% to 100% in about 15min and then went from 100% to 62% in 20min of being unused. I tried restarting, I tried resetting, I checked to see if there were updates. Nothing. Now, I'm going to have to buy and learn how to replace the internal battery, use the Kindle plugged in ONLY (which defeats the purpose of it being a mobile reader), or buy an external battery with a short cable and just keep it plugged into that the entire time I'm using it and turn it off when not using it. Otherwise, the device is as described. Very basic ereader, minimal cosmetic damaged. Just an unfortunate battery issue that I have to figure out.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Exactly what I needed
I've wanted a kindle for a long time, but never bought one because I had the kindle app on both my tablet and my phone so I didn't think having the eReader would make much of a difference. Oh, but how wrong I was! The app is good in a pinch, but it drains my battery, the backlight strains my eyes, and downloading books takes up more space than I really want to devote to it. So in general, I really don't use the apps at all. My whole point in getting the kindle app was to read more books. Since the app experience was so unenjoyable, I ended up reading less often than I'd hoped. So long story short, I decided to just try the old school kindle touch because it was cheap, simple, and a lot of ppl really liked it. I've only had it for a day now and I can already tell you that it's a major improvement over using the app. I love that it's not back-lit, so there's no strain on my eyes, the battery lasts for weeks so I don't have to worry about traveling with yet another charger or killing my phone, and it can hold as many books as I need/want. Since I already have an active kindle account it was super easy to setup and have my library handy at all times. All in all, I highly suggest, especially if you hate the app but love the concept of not having to lug bound books around.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Inconvenient and proprietary
It’s easy to read but Amazon isn’t really easy to deal with. Then continue to rubbish up the Home Screen with unwanted ads and stupid,irrelevant suggestions demanding a fee to remove their intrusions. Also,my local library is moving away from a format that works with the Kindle,making it a less convenient choice. Took some getting used to!!
Is in great shape, looks like new, took some getting used to & learned I needed a wireless router to download books!! Was able to register it & buy a couple books at my Brother's next door. Was instantly hooked once I got to reading on it & finally got my own router installed!! Доставка до Краснодара заняла 2 недели. Доставили на почту, на дом не принесли. Коробка оригинальная, не помята, была наклеена пломба, так что товар новый не разу не распакованный. Батарейка держит около месяца как и написано. Качество самой книжки восхитительное. Премиум вещь. Сборка, качество экрана, русское меню, wi-fi, простота управления, нет кнопок, а значит нет движущихся механизмов которые могут сломаться. Я доволен. Это моя первая электронная книга. Выбирал из Poket book-ов, Digma, Onyx book и прочих, но цены у них были адские, а отзывы мягко говоря не айс, у всех ломались, глючили, вздувались, взрывались батарейки при зарядке и от этого лопался экран... Проще говоря "отечественный производитель" гомнородитель. И тогда решился на покупку этой лучшей книги, и о боже, как я был удивлен что ни смотря на взлетевший курс доллара, она стоит 5000 рублей + 2000 рублей доставка, и того 7000 рублей, для сравнения за 10.000 рублей у наших барыг в МВидео или DNS вы можете купить только какое нибудь гамно вроде Texet, Digma или Poketbook, которое сломается, взорвется, загорится, или заглючит через неделю. Поэтому однозначно Kindle лучший вариант, да еще и дешевле даже с доставкой из Америки!!! Наши барыги в корень ох..ели продают гамно и накручивают на него конскую цену, дороже именитых брендов. A much better value than my Kindle Oasis. I like it a lot.
This is a good basic model. It is perfect as a "2nd Kindle" or even an only Kindle if you don't read in bed. The only thing it does not have is a "lighted" screen...but this is the one I use to read during my lunch-break, so that feature is not really needed. I got it cheap in used condition, but everything is fine. The screen has a minor flaw, but it works good and the battery life, the memory capacity are just fine. I like it a lot. Touch v. new Gen
Not sure about the new Gen device, except for the fact that it can't play games. I bought this refurbished by Amazon and it has been perfect. Bought it because my original kindle, with the alpha keys at the bottom, was stolen. I liked the idea of buttons v. a touch screen but thought I'd give this a try. So far, this works great. Games are actually a little easier to work through (spades, hearts) with the touch, but really see no difference in screen display. If you like the touch v. buttons, this seems to be a great unit. Not the "old" Kindle for sure!
My last experience with a Kindle was the 1st generation...boy have things changed! After using a tablet to read for several years my eyes just could not take the screen at night any longer. Bought this Kindle and my eyes have not stopped thanking me. Much smaller than I remembered the old Kindle to be, it is lightweight with very crisp lettering and, most importantly to me, the display does not tire my eyes nor stimulate my brain like the blue based tablet screen did.
