Not sure what was done to fit the heavy barrel a1, I don't have my other 590 here with me to look and see. Waited quite a while for one that fit so Im happy with this. Good price. I purchased this heat shield for a 590 A1 Tactical with heavy barrel. Upon receiving order, it was in factory Mossberg plastic package. The description/instructions advised it was NOT compatible with the "Heavy Barrel". I assume I had received the incorrect heatshield... I reread the add . Which stated, the original had been modified to fit. Installation is very tight but fit PERFECT ! I recommend placing oil on contact point
