This company has a very good selection of Nikons. I had a D-40 years ago and never had one problem from it. Nice and sharp photos as good as my D-5100 today. These D-40s are a great backup too. Plus the smaller censor adds to the lens magnification. Excellent camera I got from this good company and very clean and it works well. Thanks A++++++

Camera seems nice but still trying to figure out how to use it without a manual. It also didn’t come with a charging cord for the generic battery charger. Came with a generic battery and charger from China, nothing to do with Nikon, so I won’t be trusting the actual battery that was sent with the camera, as I’ve bought non Nikon Batteries in the past and they didn’t hold a charge.

This makes a great all around kit for getting serious about taking digital pictures. The Nikon D40 is a real easy to use basic digital SLR. I will plug kenrockwell.com also. He turned me on to this great value camera. In my opinion the gem in this kit is the 18-200mm VR lens. This is really the only lens you need. It does have more weight than the 18-55mm lens but you have almost 2 lenses in one. There are some drawbacks for power users. High ISO pictures turn out too grainy for most users. Getting to the functions like ISO requires you to stop shooting and go into the menu. My Nikon D300s is clearly a better camera, but it should be given the cost.
This is a great entry camera. I made somewhat of a switch from using cannons to buying this Nikon d40. I liked the price first. But the camera has very clear pictures, intuitive controls (if you have a Canon now the controls are just flipped) . The camera communicates well with my Mac and PCs. The menus and feed back is clear and my lenses have worked great. The only issues I have with it is that (1) the display doesn't turn off when you put the camara to your face like a rebel it waits for you to press the shudder release 1/2 way. So you have some light in your face for a moment. There isn't as far as I have seen an option to put the focus on a separate button than the shudder release like the canons.
i had been using this camera for about a week now. its been a great camera as a starter for photography. the only thing which i found is that when you are taking a picture its more handy if they have the ability for the user to select if he/she want to use the viewfinder or the LCD screen for the display. The D40 doesnt support the lcd screen when taking a picture. other than that everything else seems really nice. flash seems to be good. macro is good (objects can be closen up upto about 8-10") im happy for my buy. cheers sid
