I've used Quicken for years. I love it for ease of balancing my account at the end of the month, and getting an overall view of my finances. However, the last 2 times I've upgraded the install has been a nightmare. This time Quicken Deluxe 2017 required an older version of MS runtime (4.61?). Had to uninstall the current version (4.7) and install an older one. Spent 2 hours getting it all straight. You would think the installation process for such a reputable piece of software would go smoothly.

This is for me the replacement to my 2014 Deluxe. That one I replaced because it was unable to recognize that financial institutions might have passwords longer than 11 characters! Required a cumbersome and unclear workaround guided by the financial institution making best effort to help its customer overcome the poorly engineered software. So I figured while I was choking on this issue, may as well upgrade to the current in case there were other problems when I upgraded, which there were. None of this is news to anyone familiar with Quicken by the way. Problem is, you start using Quicken, get all your financial data loaded in, and then you're stuck with them, because it's more cumbersome to switch vendors than to slog through their mediocre product. And they know it. And there's therefore little incentive for them to work hard to fix the problems. They have a captive market. The 2017 version, as typical, duplicated transactions on the conversion. Then the menu would have the option to delete greyed out for whatever reason, randomly. Then I would highlight a transaction, go to delete it, and the highlight would jump to a different, random transaction, just as it was deleting. So not only deleting a wanted transaction, but it happened so fast you couldn't see which was being deleted. I had to manually re-reconcile all affected accounts with online or printed statements from financial institutions. What a load of crap. To add insult to injury, the software regularly launches popup windows trying to sell you other Intuit products, even though you're supposed to be able to turn them off. Of course, if you do, they magically get reset, typically when software automatically updates. How convenient for Intuit...Read full review

Software came in sealed package, new! Just as expected. Installation wasn't easy. I found the CD to be Release 1 and fussed around online until I found a patch to update it to the most current release 19.7. After the patch was installed, the software wouldn't open. I ended up calling Quicken support. I was on hold for 24 minutes. Once the agent answered he was able to find my account and then put me on another long hold 18 minutes or so to fix some issues they were having. I asked if it was something I has done and was told no, that it was at their end. Everything seems OK now. I'm a QuickBooks user and using Quicken is going backwards but is necessary for the small organization this is meant to be used for. I'll dig in deeper tomorrow and get transactions posted and a report run. I think it will be fine, just not as powerful as QuickBooks.Read full review

This software is suppose to be able to load on 3 computers, but after I loaded it on my desktop I could not get it to load on my laptop. Fortunately both 2016 and 2017 versions recognize the same data type. Wish someone would come out with competition as Intuit is not customer friendly and as of 2018 Quicken is subscription based.

I have been using Intuit to manage my personal finances for over 20 years. I have found it easy to use, informative, and on occasion has alerted me to invalid charges on my account that I could then have corrected. There are a lot of financial management tools to employ to establish and maintain an investment plan and a budget. It is well worth the money.
