GeForce FX 5200: Still worth the money if you understand it's limitations
I've used several of these Nvidia based FX 5200 graphics cards over the years and they perform well for their intended purpose. I say that specifically because any PCI add on has limited performance aspects based on the architecture of the PCI design. Many people will tell you that an older PC that uses PCI slots should not be upgraded, it should be junked and a new PC purchased that is more up to date. I disagree. The primary purpose of buying a stand alone PCI graphics card is to get the video off the motherboard (on board graphics use the CPU and system RAM to handle graphics tasks) and on to a separate GPU (graphics processing unit) and on card video RAM. Any older system that has a CPU clock frequency of over 2 ghz is still able to perform tasks that are common to many computer users. ... I'm currently running running two of these FX 5200 cards, one on a Dell GX260 that is primarily my shops stereo system, and one in another Dell GX270 that you can still watch full screen DVD movies on.

NVIDIA GeForce cards are pretty awsome. I've tried ATI and had mixed results in compatability, performance and quality. I have an AGP version of this card and just purchased the PCI version for a childs PC. Yes its old technology, in the FX 5200, but you can still do some light gaming provided you set the in game video settings to low (played RappleZ, Company of Heroes series, Age of Empires and many others with this card). If its a choice between onboard video on an older PC and this card....get this card, you will see the difference.NVIDIA GeForce cards are pretty awsome. The eVGA GeForce FX5200 is a very low end video card. However, for a non-video-intensive computer, such as a server, it is ideal. Pros: Low heat generation; sufficient video power for office applications; replaceable heatsink. Cons: Cheap heatsink fan could seize and GPU could overheat (this one did, but it survived); no VGA connector. This card could play old or non-video-intensive games, such as solitaire, but the frame rate for late-model games would be unacceptable.The eVGA GeForce FX5200 is a very low end video card.
