I bought this cookbook for a couple of reasons. One is that I love old cookbooks and this one, although not antique, is a good combination of the old and the new. The second is that these little cookbooks, homogeneous to an area, ethnicity, organization or era, are absolute gems of ideas and recipes and good sense put forth by every day people living wonderful every day lives. The combination of old and new is reflected in such recipes as Milky Way Cake (new) and onion souffle (old). Amish people are well known for their hard work and ingenuity. The recipes reflect every day ingredients used in previously unthought of ways; ever hear of Peanut Pie? It's the first thing on my list to try! There is a rich supply of antidotes ("A word of advice - don't give it" p.112)and another of weather hints and seasonal tips ("When butterflies migrate early, winter will be early..." p.153), etc. All entertaining reading along with delicious food combos meant to please.Read full review

Tried some of the recipes already. Easy with common ingredients that I have on hand. Very good and tasty. Bought it because I wanted just that and got a very good complete cookbook. Love it.
