About this product

Product Information

RADIO DAYS is Woody Allen's charming, nostalgic, very funny love letter to growing up in 1940s Brooklyn during the golden age of radio. The setting is the close-knit working-class neighborhood of Rockaway, New York, where a warm, crazy, sprawling Jewish family lives, sharing their happiness as well as their disappointments. The youngest member of the family, Joe (Seth Green, of television's BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER), dreams of the glamour and excitement of Manhattan conjured up by the radio programs he and his family listen raptly to each night. Presented in a tapestry of interlocking vignettes, RADIO DAYS weaves tales of everyday family life with glimpses of the glittering--and not so glittering--world of established and aspiring radio celebrities. Allen makes the radio the film's central figure, taking its place as communicator to the world, existing almost as another member of the family. Allen and director of photography Carlo DiPalma capture the look and feel of the time marvelously, and the music is a joy to listen to. The result is a comic, bittersweet, kaleidoscopic look at a long-gone New York that is one of writer-director Woody Allen's most fully realized--and most enjoyable--films.

I loved Radio Days. Radio Days is one of Woody Allen’s best. A nostalgic Look back at his growing up during The Golden Age of Radio When radio program

Radio Days is one of Woody Allen’s best. A nostalgic Look back at his growing up during The Golden Age of Radio When radio programs and their stars were enormously popular. It’s wonderful and charming with Perfect period detail and filled with cameos from most of Allen’s past leads. It was Oscar nominated for Best screenplay and is Tonally similar to Fellini’s Amacord in its Depiction of memories.

  • Radio Days

Radio Days is on my short list of favorite films for many reasons. Covering a time line from 1939 to 1944, this movie is not just SET in that period, it IS the period. In a style not unlike Christmas Story, the anecdotal film is from the view of a young boy growing up in that era and narrated by him as an adult (Woody Allen)looking back. The characters, as in C.S., are highly colored but still believable. As a plot line, the lifestyles of radio celebrities are continually compared with the less flashy ones of a working class extended Jewish family and their neighbors, who are portrayed as part of the typical radio audience. Historical broadcasts, such as War of the Worlds and Pearl Harbor, as well as America's love at the time for big band and pop vocal music, show how radio united ...

  • The Golden (and funny) days of radio.

This is a nostalgic and FUNNY movie, It's set in Rockaway, N.Y., sometime between 1938 to New Years Eve 1943, Woody Allen wrote, directed, and narrates the movie. He remembers his childhood during the golden-days of radio, and how the radio related to his family and those memories. The dramas, the music, and news broadcasts. The funniest scenes for me was when he finds-out that his father, who previously kept his occupation from him, was a cabdriver who picked him up. Woody didn't care that his father was a cabby, he "loved him,..in fact he gave him his biggest tip" that day. The other funny scene is when a hit-man takes a witness (Mia Farrow), to his mother's home, after finding they grew-up in the same-old neighborhood. The mother remember's her, and kindly offers her more food. Then ...

  • A WARM & "SPELLBINDING" JOURNEY INTO A BEAUTIFUL & FORGOTTEN AGE...........

This is an absolute "Gem"!!! It is a magnificent "homage" to a beautiful, bygone era! Superb story telling... The inspired narrative by Woody Allen weaves its magic like a golden thread throughout. The music "Soundtrack" is a sublime masterpiece of perfectly integrated nostalgia....and is pure "HEAVEN". This film is an Open "Love" Letter from one of the great cinematic geniuses of our time and should be savored - like a rare, "vintage" wine! It is "life" at its sweetest & in its ESSENCE.... This DVD is an absolute "CLASSIC". This is truly the stuff dreams are made of......PRICELESS!!!

  • A FANTASTIC WORK OF DAYS GONE BY

From the moment I saw this movie for the first time, it brought to mind days gone by. I only know this as was told to me by my grandparents as I wasn't even born during this time period. It not only gives you a taste of nostalgia, it shows you how families lived together in those days just to make ends meet. IF only people would see how much easier life could be for them IF they shared housing and expenses, perhaps they wouldn't be so determined to live apart from loved ones. Although this movie is a glimpse into the past, it's also a likely glimpse into the future.
