About this product

Product Information

Samba de Amigo is a rhythm-based game where players shake maracas to the beat of Latin-flavored music. Using either the Maraca controllers (sold separately) or the standard Dreamcast controller, you must match your movements to the onscreen guide as closely as possible. The screen is configured with six possible controller positions (left high, left middle, left low, right high, right middle, and right low) represented by circles arranged in a hexagonal shape.

Blue rhythm balls move out from the center of this configuration, and when the balls coincide with circles, the maracas must be shaken in the proper position. You'll also occasionally be required to "pose" by moving each maraca into a specific position and holding it there. Close matches get a "yeah!" while misses get a "boo!" Get too many boos and your game will be over.

Songs include familiar tunes like "Cup of Life," "Soul Bossa Nova" and "Macarena," as well as ditties from Sega games such as Out Run, After Burner, and Sonic R. The latter group can be unlocked by going online and downloading small files to your VMU. Once every song is unlocked, there are 23 to choose from.

In addition to the standard gameplay, there is the Challenge mode in which you must complete a series of tasks in order to become the "Maracas King," a party mode featuring mini-games for two players, a battle mode, and a couples mode that tests two players' love rating.

  • Just a good time all around.

I bought this game as a gift for a 10 year old. But the game easily sucks anyone in that is around it. It's easy to learn how to play, and get's everyone laughing. The game resembles playing a game on the Wii, as you have to shake the maracas to hit the notes. And while it is an easy enough game for somone just to pick up and play, it's challenging enough to make you come back for more. With over 20 songs, and a bunch of different party game modes it is sure to keep you buisy for quite some time. I would suggest if you are able to find a second pair of maraca controllers to pick them up as 2 player seems like it could add a lot of fun to the overall experience. All around I have had the Dreamcast since back when it was new, and man did I miss out on picking this game up sooner. Definatly ...

  • Samba de Amigo

Dreamcast's arcade-perfect port of the classic maracas-shaking hit from Japan. Using special maracas controllers and a mat, players perform to rhythmic music in front of their TVs, shaking maracas in all directions and striking poses at key moments. The game supports two-player simultaneous play and comes packed with a full complement of Latin and moder music.
