Even though this book is a bit dated, it is still a tremendous book to have on the shelf. This is true whether one has a general interest in Ancient History, or one is teaching about Ancient History. National Geographic has long been known as the pinnacle in photography, but also for doing fairly solid research and history that can be understood by all. What I really enjoyed about the book are the photographs of both the excavations but also of the artifacts of the related time periods. The book itself is fairly large, so one is not looking at small photographs of various artifacts, but instead it is possible to see the detailed work related to these artifacts. Overall, a very nice book, well written (and understood), and a nice addition to any library.
