Let's review Vampire Hunter D (with a very, very tiny "D" on the front cover - why?), PAL European edition. Great all-around game for PS1 in the style of Biohazard/Resident Evil. Cool gothic graphics, excellent moody soundtrack, and solid voice-acting. The PAL version has the same English voices as in the US version (they sound to me like the same voice actors from the animated movie this is based on, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust) and D has the bright purple cape-lining that he had in the US version, even though the mustard yellow color in the Japanese version is more accurate. The subtitles have been restored (like in the original Japanese version), likely due to the fact that even though the voices are always in English, you can toggle among 3 different languages in the options. Also, the menu controls have been restored to their proper Japanese configuration. Circle is confirm, X is cancel (I can't stand the US button configuration, so this is a welcome change). Whichever version you get, it's still a solid game.Read full review

I remember this game from when I was a child and always wanted it. It was made in the time that they where trying to do the 3D polygon stuff and just turned out bad. Phil Hartman as the voice of Blasto is good, but repetitive very fast. It reminded me of a poor attempt at the Sega classic Toe Jam and Earl. I loved that game and had great graphics and levels. This game just missed on a lot of those areas. I enjoy it, but jut feels blah.

I don't remember all the hype that this game had before it's release, but I do remember playing it. Blasto is an early 3D adventure game for the Playstation (one). The graphics and animation were ahead of their time. The controls were okay, but the game was too difficult. The comical voice-over by the late, Phil Hartman, was worth the price alone. I remember playing this game and bought it for nostalgic reasons. It brought back Hilarious and frustrating memories of a game I really wanted to advance in. The worlds, creatures and animations were amazing. But after a few stages, the game just gets too difficult. Even today, I wish to view the game in its entirety. I'm sure someone has a speed run video online somewhere! I'm out.
This game is very fun. It may be difficult the first couple of times you play it, however once you master the controls, you will find yourself having trouble putting the controller down. This is the best game I've ever played in my whole life. If you haven't played it and are thinking about it, DO IT NOW!!! I cannot stress that enough. DO IT AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!! The game is very easy to pick up and play, no tutorial, none of that, you just go straight into the gameplay. Highly recommended game. Pick it up if you have a chance, and remember, the L2 and R2 buttons are dodge buttons. I just made you life a whole lot more easy when it comes to this game. - Carlos E. Moctezuma

Blasto is a great example of great retro PS1 platform, third person shooter games. The visuals are compelling and beautiful, with psychedelic astronomy, sci-fi motifs. The wise cracking jokes of Cap. Blasto in the voice of the late and great Phil Hartman just make this a must have title for any videogame fan!
