About this product

Product Information

Capcom continues to explore new genres with the release of Group S Challenge for Xbox, the company's second racing game after the cel-shaded Auto Modellista on PlayStation 2. Group S Challenge attempts to deliver realism in both its 3D visuals and its lineup of cars, but the racing action leans more toward an arcade style than a simulation. Officially licensed vehicles are from such auto manufacturers as Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, Audi, TVR, Mitsubishi, Renault, and RUF. Two modes of play include Circuit and Arcade, both of which feature an assortment of real-world tracks set in Monaco, Australia, Tokyo, and more.

Circuit Mode is the heart of the game and offers three distinct formats: Championship, Line, and Duel. Championship involves competing in a series of races using different classes with the goal of becoming a top-ranked driver. Line tests a player's driving prowess by awarding points for following a course's racing line from start to finish. Duel is a one-on-one race where the winner receives a customized car from the rival driver. Players who just want to compete without having to enter specific events will want to jump to Arcade Mode, which opens up all classes for racing action. Top performances can be witnessed again and again in the Replay Theater, which features cinema-style camera angles for dramatic flair.

  • Very average racer from capcom.

I got this game hoping that it would have a little something that would make it stand out from the rest of the racing genre. I was disappointed, this game does nothing new that makes it stand out from any racing game already out. The cars handle part simulation and part arcade. The selection of cars is good, but kind of boring, offering nothing new or different. I would say, give this game a try if you are a hardcore racer that has played everything else, or if you can pick it up cheap. The game is not great, yet not bad either.
