About this product

Product Information

The popular Burnout series returns to its roots with Burnout Dominator. Unlike the previous two iterations, in which gameplay was centered on spectacular crashes, Dominator encourages racers to merely push to the brink of complete disaster rather than go over the edge, and it offers a reinvention of the long lost burnout as a reward. Not seen since 2003's Burnout 2: Point of Impact, burnouts are the result of using an entire boost meter at once. Chaining burnouts together is the primary way to score points in a number of game modes, and courses have been designed specifically to handle the tremendous speed of multiple burnouts in a single race.

Though the importance of crashing has been toned down a bit in Dominator, reckless driving is still more than encouraged, as evidenced by the return of road rage mode in which gamers are encouraged to take down opponents by slamming them into other vehicles and environmental objects. Similarly dedicated to dangerous driving is the new maniac mode that awards points for speeding through oncoming traffic, drifting through corners with reckless abandon, and chaining burnout after burnout together. Also new is the signature shortcut feature that rewards racers for sending opponents careening into barriers that conceal alternate routes.

Burnout Dominator features a mostly new roster of vehicles with an emphasis on American and European cars. Many of the more unusual hotrods from previous Burnout games have returned and a whole new group of classic cars has been added. Gamers can unlock vehicles in single-player world tour mode by winning races, racking up points, and completing tasks like drifting a specific distance. Multiplayer options include split-screen support for two players and a party mode that lets up to four players take turns competing in the same event.

  • Burnout Dominator PS2

I've played most of the Burnout games. And the only thing I found lacking in this game was the crash. I love racing, takedowns. But I also love the crash. The new features include shortcuts (although shortcuts were available in Burnout Revenge), and chain boosting (boosting the whole way through a boost bar). The cars were great (as in all burnout games). The graphics not as good as Revenge. I bought the game because I love Burnout. I only kept it for a short time, because my ps2 is located in another room and I hating having to move it to play (not at all the games fault). The instruction book (and I say that lightly) was only like 7 pages, when a regular instruction book is like 20 or 30, but it's Burnout, not rocket science. So the game was great, if you don't miss the ...

  • If you liked Revenge, you might not like this

The aspect of Burnout Revenge that I loved was that I didn't have to be a good player in race games. Revenge allowed you to crash into almost anyone in the game; in fact in many of the races - crashing was encouraged. That anarchist aspect is lacking from Dominator. Now you have to be a pretty talented racer to make it through the levels. No hitting other traffic, unless it is one of the computer controlled opponents, or another player. And the CRASH event is totally missing from this installment of the series. Replaced by the MANIAC event. NOT a fair trade. Also, the cars are assigned during every race, the only choice is the color. If you are a skilled racer, with no wrecks, then this will be an enjoyable game. If you aren't quite as nimble in steering with an ...

  • Just let me drive already!

Okay. My original review was fueled by pure unbridled frustration that needed to be vented, but that is how angry this game makes me. When you actually get to racing, it's good. Unfortunately, the World Tour events in DOMINATOR are marred by tedious challenges that make me groan whenever I see them. I seriously don't care about the "burnout challenge", "near miss challenge", "drift challenge", and the counter-intuitively suicidal "maniac" events. Just let me race, dang it! And it seriously seems that after a certain point, the game becomes impossible to win. Your opponents are always faster, cannot be caught even after a whole minute of turbo boosting, and the game always seems to throw a car in your way to make you crash at the most inopportune time. The game flat out throws traffic in ...

  • cool game good price

I like the video games price, graphics, and i just collect all Burnout games. i decide to buy it because of the price and it is new. although the description said new i think it was used it was in a protected plastic wrap but it did not have that white strip on the bottom or top when you buy a new game. but the game had no scratches, it came with a manual, and the original case. but i think it was a refurb but still it is very very similar to new. so buy here payless or buy retail pay more. easy choice? ohhh yeah.
