About this product

Product Information

Picking up where "Assassin’s Creed" left off on the PlayStation 3 (PS3) console, as well as the Xbox 360 and PC consoles, "Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines" is a direct sequel with an action adventure story exclusive to the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld system. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal and Griptonite Games, "Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines" had a concurrent release date with "Assassin’s Creed II" and served to enrich the game universe with background information and character development. Among other things, players learn more about the connection between the characters Altair and Ezio, while filling in many of the blanks between the "Assassin’s Creed" and "Assassin’s Creed II" games. Visually, "Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines" is among the most impressive games for the PSP with a smooth frame rate and a color palette authentic to the Cyprus setting. Players of the original "Assassin’s Creed" game will recognize the near-identical mechanics in this PSP sequel with only minor modifications to suit the unique controls of the PlayStation Portable device. This allows for a seamless transition to the handheld platform to continue the assassin’s campaign against the Templars. There are still plenty of new tricks to discover though, from parkour exploring to stealthy attacks. The dynamic locomotion feature adds to the fluidity of the gameplay, seeing Altair interact with the terrain automatically, diving through openings and climbing up ledges with the Free Run option – activated by holding down the R button. Combat is an especially popular feature in "Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines" for the PSP with an easy targeting system, combo options, and counter attacks. Cinematic finishing moves have a lasting appeal, even after they have been seen a few times. A range of assassination techniques were introduced to the series in "Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines" on the PSP and, for the first time, Altair could pull opponents from ledges. Weapons at Altair’s disposal include his sword, hidden blade, throwing knives, and fists. Unlike in other games, Altair can retrieve thrown knives by walking over them. The open game world of Cyprus is rich and engaging with plenty of interactivity to jump, run, and climb across different parts of the map – all of which lends a great deal of realism to the island. As in other games of the series, civilians react to the player’s movements around the world, and fewer are included to streamline the game for handheld gameplay. There is also plenty to unlock in conjunction with "Assassin’s Creed II" on the PS3 by connecting the PSP system to the console. "Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines" has an in-game achievement system, which uses Templar coins as player rewards. These are earned by successfully executing certain tasks, which may require Altair to collect items or kill enemy Templars in a given order. Templar coins also form the basis for unlocking upgrades and special content, such as a larger health gauge and increased weapon damage. Offering side missions in addition to the main story mode, "Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines" offers excellent replay value and satisfying game play even in short bursts, making it ideally suited to a handheld platform. Side missions include making deliveries of letters and intercepting the deliveries of others with coins being the reward for success. "Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines" set a benchmark for games of its type on handheld systems. There were high expectations from Ubisoft in making this video game franchise’s translation from the PS3 and Xbox 360 to the PlayStation Portable, and the game did not disappoint. Since its late 2009 release date, the franchise has gone on to release games for the Nintendo DS, Xbox One and Wii U, among other consoles.

  • Could be better...

First off I want to say that Altair isn't the same person that you know from the first game. He has a strange accent that bugs the hell out of me and the way that the dialogue is written doesn't quite come up to par. Although it does explain a lot about the missing information, the Codex Pages, AltairxMaria, etc, the game is too short and, quite frankly, too easy. You can kill a guy right in front of another guy and he would be too stupid to realize it, the gameplay and side missions are dumbed down to fit the limited controls that the psp has and not to mention that plethora of hilarious glitches that graced my first playthrough of the game. Including one that made me ROFL mad hard when I was running, jumped onto a barrel then jumped to grab onto the side of a building and ended up ...

  • If you like Assassin's Creed, and have a PSP, you should get this game.

Certainly not as good as the major platform releases, but it is still a good game, especially for a portable game, and it has some plot points that will interest fans of the series. It continues Altair's story a little and explains what happens with Maria. It's not as repetitive as the first Assassin's Creed, and it doesn't have any of the Desmond/Abstergo story, which some felt slowed the first game down. More than the previous game, this one has a lot of similarities with actual events. The cities aren't as recognizable, and rather unremarkable, but the gameplay is fun.

  • Its a pretty good game, but short.

The storyline of Bloodlines is great. It fills in what happens after Assassin's Creed 1. It also explains somethings that happens in Assassin's Creed 2, when you become Altair again, but you are not in the animus. Anyway, because the storyline is short, I beat the game in two days, that without finding all the coins. But I mainly got the game to get the weapons in Assassin's Creed 2 when you do PS3-PSP interconnectivity. You also get bonuses for Bloodlines as well.

  • Only get it if you are a fan of the series and want to play all its titles

Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines has received mixed reviews from critics. It received a 5.5 from GameSpot which praised its sound-effects but heavily criticized the platforming, small areas and over-emphasis on combat neglecting other areas.[6] However IGN gave it a 6.9 criticizing its repetitive sound effects as well as one dimensional combat but praising the game's visuals.[7] GameSpy gave the game a 2.5 out of 5 praising its faithfulness to the series and its gameplay though heavily criticizing its environments, repetitive gameplay as well as poor script and voice-acting.[8] GameZone's Louis Bedigian gave the game a 5.3/10, saying the game is "Generic at best, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines is a great example of what can be done on the PSP visually, but should in no way be considered an ...
