    My 1 year review flying VFR with the AV7600VOR!

    I bought my AV7600VOR last year on Ebay and fly VFR with it. For a 1980’s backup radio it’s pretty good, a little bigger and heavier then a Sporty’s A300 but that’s OK. If you plan to use this as a backup radio in the cockpit, be sure to use it for regular coms for a while so you know it’s limits, don’t wait for a failure to find out! FOR ALL OLDER RADIOS, KNOW THIS: LCD displays are small, poor contrast and poorly backlighted compared to today. In an emergency, in turbulence (shaky hand, shaky display) or in the dark, you may never see the error display that tells you to key in the correct frequency again. (On the 7600, hit ‘Scan’ for the last valid frequency and start again.) ANTENNAS: All radios, NEW and OLD I’ve tested (STS, KX99, Sporty’s, Icom, etc) on a RF Vector Network Analyzer ...

    Best of 1980's handheld aviation units.

    The STS 7600 is the best of the 1980's handheld, easy to use and solid as a rock. I now have 4 units and we use them around the airport.
