    The only model that fits, but obvious lack of quality

    The Kluson Planetary is the only direct replacement available for the Firebird (reverse banjo type) six in line. The fit and looks are perfect, but there is an obvious weakness in the Kluson product manufacturing. I'd say at least 3 of the six tuners already have some loose or back lash in the gear. I knew from experience I had to expect this from Kluson. They don't built their product to last and even brand knew they show weakness. The only reason I bought these is because it's the only direct replacement available on the market. And do I have to say that prices go in the opposite direction from quality... Conclusion : I bought Kluson because it's the only offering. If Schaller or Gotoh or even Grover would make one, I'd go to them eyes closed.

    Worth The Effort, But Disappointing "Issues"

    These tuners / machine heads are claimed by Kluson to have been re-engineered. I can confirm that whilst they are not in the league of Sperzel quality, they are indeed an improvement over the Gibson originals that they replaced on my 2007 Firebird. The reason that I've marked them down is because Kluson point out that with the 5/16" capstans, the bushes are necessarily larger than standard tuner bushes, and it may be necessary to enlarge the peg head holes. On my Firebird the new supplied bushes were so loose that they rattled in the peg head holes. I was forced to reinsert the chromium plated Gibson bushes. The original Gibson bushes have a sort of art deco stepped flange profile, and this means that it is higher than the new Klusons, and that in turn means there is a recess around the ...
