Following in the footsteps of the 1940 Disney classic, FANTASIA 2000 features seven animated short films set to classical compositions, along with the original version of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," starring Mickey Mouse. (This 2000 version also includes hosts such as Steve Martin, Quincy Jones, and Bette Midler introducing each segment.) The film opens with abstract butterfly-like creatures of light and darkness fluttering about to Beethoven's "Fifth Symphony" but quickly moves to the second sequence, featuring an adventurous baby whale and its elders floating along to "The Pines of Rome." Next is the "Rhapsody In Blue" segment, a tribute to 1930s New York City, based on the line drawings of illustrator Al Hirschfeld. The fourth piece is Hans Christian Andersen's tale of "The Steadfast Soldier" set to "Piano Concerto No. 2," followed by "The Carnival of Animals" which stars a yo-yo-wielding pink flamingo. The next two segments feature classic Disney characters; first, Mickey Mouse in the original version of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," then Donald Duck in a retelling of the Noah's Ark story set to "Pomp and Circumstance." Finally, "The Firebird" closes out the film, with a sweeping woodland story of nature's death and rebirth. With its brilliant animation, well-paced stories, and immediately engaging music, FANTASIA 2000 easily matches the wondrous spectacle of the original.

    DRemake of a Walt Disney Favorite.

    IN 1940, Walt Disney's vision of animation and classical music came to life. Unfortunately, the average patron of Disneys animated films did not imbrance the Fantasia movie. Kids were restless, and their parents were disappointed. Move forward to the 90s, and Roy Disney and crew were able to update the film. The sound in 5.1 home stereo, is great, and after watching the making of the film clip, it made the film really enjoyable. My copy is a used copy, and for less that 4.00, I will enjoy the film from time to time.

    I loved the first one, and I love the second. I understand Walt Disney wanted to keep fantasia running constantly with small changes each time, but since that didn't happen, why include an old short? Why not make a new one?

    One of my childhood favorites

    I remember when my mom sent me a birthday card on my 7th birthday and she said that we're going to see Fantasia 2000. I saw it three times in theaters and I love the film to this day, along with the original.

    Poor quality

    The disc was damaged and stopped about 5 minutes in. Waste of money and a very disappointing birthday surprise for my boyfriend.

    Disney's Fantasia on DVD will make you feel so young, you will make yourself a sandwich at the same time!

    Awesome must have movie on dvd. Very Entertaining. Disney's Best of Musicals! If you want to feel 20 to 30 years younger, trust this movie to do so.
