Ive been a bassist for 22 years. Have also played 6-string guitars in that time. Concerning electric bass, Ive used ML, M, & MH guage flatwounds. For sound quality, my preferences are ML & M I use only fender & d'addario flatwounds on my guitars, whether electric bass, or whether electric or acoustic 6-string. Flatwounds will not cause the fret wear-down of roundwound steel. So, for anyone preferring roundwounds for their acoustic guitar, I recommend COPPER roundwounds. Theyre not easy to find, but they will maximize the life of your guitar Fender flatwounds are expecially strong & resilient under heavy bass percussions (plucking & popping). It appears fender has refined their SS alloy, to minimize expansion & retraction from thermal change. After the initial stretching of new ... Ive been a bassist for 22 years. Exactly the sound and feel I was after! No more string noise when I slide. These are the first flat wounds I've owned (I'm a guitar player by trade) but I doubt the more expensive ones sound any better!
