    Almost there

The Greek info is great, but almost no info on the back side of the Roman coins and this is what I really wanted. I'll keep it and get some other book that has the info I need.

  • the title is descriptive enough of the contents

I bought this book to help me in identifying ancient coins that I have bought from ebay. It is overall a very good book, with lots of excellent photographs of hundreds of ancient coins. The only complaint I have is minor. The author makes minor mistakes in regards to geography. For example, when explaining about coins from Armenia, the author explains that it is located "in Russian and in Turkey". Armenia is in fact a country in and of itself, formerly a republic in the USSR. Since this book is copyrighted in 2003 and the Soviet Union broke up in 1991, the author should know geography better. The author also makes no mention of the modern nation if Israel, choosing instead to refer to Palestine. Otherwise, it is a great reference book without overwhelming the average reader with an ...

  • Ancient Greek and Roman Coins

A great book for beginners of Greek or Roman Coin Collection . The book describes how the coins were made in those days, symbolism , denominations and a crash course in Greek to read and identify the coins . Is also has Black and white potographs of more than 1000 coins, the ones most beginners are likely to come across. It also has a Section on INDO GREEK coins , the subject i am particularly intersted . In all a good book if you are looking at starting a Greek or Roman coins collection . Price is reasonable too , and the seller send the book quickly if you buy it on Ebay .

  • Well worth the price and very informative

Handbook of Ancient Greek and Roman Coins by Zander H. Klawans (1998, Paperback, Revised, Unabridged) Whether you're a long time ancient coin collector or just starting out, this book provides a great deal of reference material. From the earliest History of coin making to the Byzantine era. Along with descriptions of coin denominations, translations of Latin and greek inscription, there are hundreds of picture examples of coins. More than enough to fill the plate of the beginner. Many numismatic catalogues are too pricey and come in volumes. "Handbook of Ancient Greek and Roman Coins" is well worth it's price.
