There is nothing less than wonderful about this. It is heavy duty, carefully manufactured, and has many extra features that make it absolutely perfect — for example it has its own built in fuse protection, on/off switch, and voltage meter. It handles enough power to run many pieces of equipment.

I appreciated that the source acknowledged a high rate of returns. The input connection on mine blew within minutes due to a cold solder joint, a common complaint I have since read about, usually repairable.Apparently also common is what happened with mine, that the thin housing dents just from moving it around. But if you happen to get one that was put together properly and you're careful not to push too hard against it, it's going to be an excellent electrical device for myriad uses. And if you accept a flawed one because you are qualified to make the necessary repairs, it still might be worth it. Just be aware there is no "quality control" and if you do end up paying to ship it back, this sucker is heavy.

When I unpacked the uunit the housing was very woblly. It seems that they used too small of a head on the screws attaching the housing to the base and it pulled away. Added some small washers to the screw head and ithe base and housing tightened nicely. Like the unit because it is cheap and the voltage output changes in small increments.

Delivered in just a few days. Worked well for the purpose I bought it for. The only thing I can think of is the test plug isn’t available on eBay or refreshed on the purchase.

This variac is quite functional, even though the voltage meter isn't accurate. Just use another voltage meter to set voltages.
