The book itself was in great shape. The story was an overlong prelude to book 5 in the series. I'm glad I didn't pay full bookstore price for this.

I am on the last few pages of this book right now and most of this book has been great but there seems to be a lot of repetition. There is no need to repeat half of what was said in a prior book of a series, if someone wants to know what was in the other books they need to read them and we that are reading the current book should not have to skip page after page of what was in the prior book. I love Dean Koontz and have read about every thing he has written but would truly appreciate him not doing this. This is not a standalone and even with the repetition it is still not a standalone.
THIS BOOK LEFT YOU WANTING MORE. THESE SERIES HAVE CHARACTERS THAT YOU REALLY CAN LIKE. THEY ARE EACH UNIQUE AND DIVERSIFIED. I LOVED THE FIRST BOOK IN THE SERIES AND EACH BOOK AFTER THE FIRST ONE WAS GOOD. BUT THE FOURTH BOOK ADDED SOME NEW TWISTS WHICH MADE IT A GOOD READ. HOWEVER THE ENDING CHAPTERS LEFT ME WISHING FOR MORE.I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WAS THE LAST PAGE...I LOOK FORWARD TO THE FIFTH BOOK IN THIS SERIES.DEAN KOONTZ HAS A GOOD SERIES HERE, TOO BAD IT DIDN'T BECOME A TV SERIES LIKE ORIGINALLY PLANNED. THESE BOOKS ARE ENJOYABLE...
Dean Koontz scores again with the fourth installment in the "Frankenstein" series, "Lost Souls." Terrifying almost from the first page, I loved it... Victor Frankenstein is dead, killed by his own creations in New Orleans, and all his New Race creatures perished with him...but in a stroke of evil genius, he had created a clone of himself to carry on his war on humanity. He calls himself Victor Leben; he has more technological savvy than the original Victor, and he has engineered new monsters in human form that are even more ruthless and destructive than those before them. In a quiet Montana town, the first battle has begun with the unsuspecting citizens. Deucalion, Frankenstein's first-and oldest-"monster", along with detectives Carson O'Connor and Michael Maddison, Erika Five (a New Race creature who survived the New Orleans debacle, now on the side of good), and the trollish Jocko must find a way to stop "clone"-Victor's new assault on civilization, facing new dangers even graver than those they faced in New Orleans... "Lost Souls" is an intense, edge of your seat nail-biter that you will find very hard to put down. The ending, as usual, leaves the story wide open for continuation in Book 5, "The Dead Town", due for release in early 2011. I for one can hardly wait! 5*****Read full review
