i'm 64 years old, i read this when i was probably eight. it was a fascinating tale then, and it was just as fascinating re-reading at age 64. i recommend it for a child of perhaps 6~8 (POSSIBLY younger or older!) it is easy to see that this series of books HAD to have influenced some other creations (particularly DISNEY!) -perhaps the story was out and out stolen!? WHAT an imagination !! it is my understanding ruth stiles gannet still lives! (as of 2016) i would like to say 'THANKS!' to her, if possible to do so! -a pretty good piece of work for the 'stiff' fifties!! i remembered it all these years, including even forgetting what it was called! a WONDERFUL re-discovery! unlike any of the other children's books, a work unto itself! a wonderfully written, imagination stimulating fantasy!

good book...charming and pretty. the illustrations are the best part of the book. the storyline is a bit tedious...derivative of peter pan or perhaps narnia. still..as jubled as it reads..it far exceeds anything i ever made in terms of creativity and charm. i would reccomment this for children younger than seven.
My brother loved his 3 dragon stories. Believe or not, this book was transrated in Japanese and my mother was able to read to him at bed time. Now I have 8 year old son who loves to read. The engaging storyline enveloped him immediately. I credit this book with sparking a life-long love of great stories.
