Starting on August 3rd, 2026, eBay gift cards will no longer be sold online, and availability through physical stores will gradually phase out. Existing gift cards can still be used at any time.
Changes to eBay gift cards sales
Starting August 3, 2026, eBay gift cards on all digital platforms will no longer be sold.
- Physical eBay gift cards may remain available at select retailers while supplies last.
- Only eBay-issued gift cards are being discontinued. Third-party gift card listings on eBay will continue to be available.
- There is no change to how you use an eBay gift card you already have. Existing eBay gift cards remain valid and can continue to be used on eBay according to our gift card terms and conditions.

Buying an eBay gift card
Digital gift cards are available on eBay - opens in new window or tab in addition to other online retailers until August 3, 2026. Physical gift cards may continue to be available at CVS, Walgreens, and other retailers - opens in new window or tab for a limited time after August 3, 2026, while their existing inventory lasts.
Paying with an eBay gift card
If it is the first time you are using your gift card, you’ll need to use your redemption code. Here’s where you’ll find your gift card redemption code:
- Digital cards - The code is in the email you received
- Physical cards - Scratch off the security coating on the back of the card to reveal the code
When you're ready to make a purchase, here’s how to pay with your eBay gift card at checkout:
- Enter your shipping and payment details.
- Scroll to the bottom of the checkout page and enter the gift card redemption code in the Gift cards and coupons field.
- Select Apply to see your new total.
- Check your details again and select Confirm and pay.
If you don't have enough money on your gift card to cover the total cost of an item outright, you can pay the remaining cost using another payment method, such as a credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal.
Link your eBay gift card
To ensure you have access to your funds, even if you’ve lost the card, you can link your eBay gift card with your account. Go to our Add Gift card - opens in new window or tab page, log into your account, and then enter the redemption code.
Using your gift card at checkout will also automatically link the card to your account and if there's a remaining balance, the card will remain linked for easier use next time.
Tip
If you return an item you bought with an eBay gift card, the amount you used on the gift card will be refunded. You can then use the gift card again as long as you're using the same eBay account.
Gift card restrictions
There are a few restrictions to keep in mind when using eBay gift cards:
- You can’t use an eBay gift card to buy bullion, coins, paper money, virtual currency, coupons, or other gift cards
- Gift cards are linked to your account on the first use. Once you use it, your card cannot be used with another eBay account
