Women's Leggings

Leggings are a staple in many women’s wardrobe. They can act as an accent to an outfit or a significant part of the ensemble. Trying to find the right pair for you out of all the leggings out on the market, however, can be a frustrating task. Knowing the different types of women's leggings and what they are used for can help ease that frustration.

Are there different kinds of leggings?

Leggings come in a variety of styles and materials. Some are meant to make a statement on their own and some are meant to add warmth to an outfit. When considering which type of women’s leggings to get, consider what their use will be. Also, when choosing something to wear under a dress during the colder months, consider a thick pair, such as ones made from wool. For workout clothes, choose a pair of tights that are breathable and designed for exercise, such as ones made from mesh.

What material are leggings made out of?

Cotton, nylon, lycra, and spandex are four of the materials used in leggings. They can also be made out of wool, silk, lace, or any other fabric that is form-fitting and stretchy. You will also find tights made with a combination of materials, such as a cotton-spandex blend.

While black leggings are common, they are not the only option out there. In fact, leggings are available in a Seemingly endless array of colors and prints, including combinations.

What sizes do women’s leggings come in?

Women’s tights come in a wide array of sizes. Depending on the brand, they could be sized by numbers, such as 4 or 10, or by words, such as small or large. You will also find most brands offer plus sizing as well.

Leggings are also available in various lengths beyond the traditional ankle-length. Knee-length, for example, are tights that come to the knee while Capri-length falls somewhere between the knee and the ankle.

How should leggings fit?

Women’s leggings are generally supposed to fit tight. However, you may not want them to be so tight that they create an unwanted or unflattering appearance or start to cut off circulation. Leggings should also not be too baggy. They should cover your legs without leaving wrinkles in the cloth. Since each brand has its specific sizing, be sure to refer to the brand’s size chart to determine the cut you desire based on your waist and hips.
